The TVA, timelines, and confusion
The TVA. A spontaneously appearing, seemingly all powerful cult of a single, Sacred, time line. Except...... The time keepers are robots, pruning doesn't actually kill you, and their definitions of the Sacred time line are definitely not categorical.
So what's going on here? The MCU, up to this point, has followed the events of the Sacred time line. That means Doctor Strange time looping Dormamu, Tony Stark Inventing time travel to undo the snap (Including the events that led to Loki breaking from his course) were 'meant' to happen, or rather, the creator of the TVA wanted to happen.
It's my speculation that the creator of the TVA is the winner of the previous multiversal war, and has some very specific way they want the time line to shake out, and has imperfect knowledge of how to make that happen. They are constantly resetting the 'Sacred timeline' to get the one they want, and ensuring that competing ideas don't spring up via prunning.
Evidence? Sylvie was variant from birth. That means that a 'Loki' was born more than once. Sylvie didn't simply make 'wrong' decisions and fall off her designated path, but rather was born differently. This only makes sense if they reset beyond the point that Loki is born- not just prunning to ensure the events go as planned. Additionally, the detail that there is a limit to where the time keepers 'plan' was makes way more sense this way. It's not that there is a decision to be made- they simply can't get things to go right past a certain point. It's this failure that leads them to start over, which allows our variants to be created.
Alternative argument:
The TVA has many allusions to orwell- the posters, the constant motif of an eye, the bureaucracy of evil, etc. This concept only makes sense if the creator is just as fallable and human as any one else in the MCU. From a thematic perspective, the TVA being a single person installing false gods to force an agenda on an entire multiverse, and failing, just makes sense.
Smaller theory:
Doctor Strange saying there is exactly 1 timeline in which they win in the events of infinity war may be because the TVA would only allow one method of victory. Namely, one in which Tony Stark, a person who was on the impetus of their technology, would die before he could mature that technology. Can't have a competing group vying for control of the timeline (or creating a multiverse).
