A few questions I have as an “experienced” fisherman
I’m 21 years old and have been fishing since I was about 8. However, I’ve only really been taking it seriously for about 2 years now, and have a few questions.
Question 1: Do knots matter? Normally, I use a uni knot, but some of my friends insist that there are better knots I could be using. Is that true? Do knots really make a difference?
Question 2: Do/Should I use smaller hooks for smaller baits? I usually throw some sort of plastic worm or creature bait (Texas rigged). I have a lot of luck with the Bass Pro “Bull Hogs”. But they are difficult to Texas Rig since the bait is half body - half tail. Should I use smaller hooks for baits like these? (I normally use size 4 or 5 hooks).
Question 3: My friend says the color of bait I use should depend on how clear the water is. Is that true? I’ve had tons of luck recently throwing out blue and green baits regardless of how clear the water is, but are there specific colors I should use based on the water?
Question 4: Do certain rigs work better than others? Like I said earlier, I use the Texas Rig, but I’ve read/watched a lot about the Tokyo Rig and how it improves the action of your bait. For people who rig up their baits in different ways, do you notice a difference in the number of fish you catch based on the rig you’re throwing?
Question 5: How the heck do you use chatterbaits? I have a few chatterbaits that I use. However, sometimes I get hit after hit and sometimes I get absolutely nothing. For people that use chatterbaits, how do you fish with them?
