I'm moving out at the end of this month and need to make my journey lighter. Up for sale is this beautiful Kiev-2 set.
Here's what's included:
1.) Kiev-2 (1955)
This Kiev-2 was purchased along with the Jupiter-8 lens from Oleg at OKVintageCamera. For those who don't know, Oleg is the leading specialist in FSU vintage camera gear. He personally inspects and overhauls each camera that leaves his camera shop. I've put many rolls through this camera since purchasing it in December 2020, and it has performed flawlessly. No fungus or haze inside of the viewfinder, shutter speeds accurate, focusing helicoid smooth. The top shutter speed 1/1250 is a little bit hard to set, since you need to turn the other way first then all the way around. This isn't a flaw - Oleg said himself this is just how the camera is designed (an old design from the 1930s!). This Kiev-2 was made early on during the Soviet Union's history, which many claim to be better in terms of reliability and workmanship. Comes with a black rope strap!
2.) Jupiter-8 (1955)
This Jupiter-8 came with the Kiev-2 described above. It was also inspected and serviced by Oleg - no fungus or haze. Aperture ring is smooth. Comes with original front and (home made) rear lens cap. It was made in the same year as the Kiev-2!
3.) Jupiter-12 (1955)
This Jupiter-12 was purchased from Yuri at Fedka. Yuri is another specialist in FSU vintage camera gear, though he does not do his own repairs. However, he does source excellent condition camera gear from Russia and goes to great lengths to test/inspect them before re-selling.
I had him personally source this one for the Kiev-2. It is in beautiful condition - no fungus or haze. Aperture ring and focus are smooth. It is an older variant, when the Soviets still followed Zeiss drawings, technology, and to some extent, quality. Comes with both front and rear lens caps, and a generic UV filter. Also made in the same year as the Kiev-2.
4.) Metro Case 3D Printed 35mm Aux Finder
I got this auxiliary finder after reading an article on Casual Photophile. It is sturdy and works well. The optics are sourced from a Canon Sureshot Owl, which is known for its huge VF. I made this myself, and it works well with the Jupiter-12 on the Kiev-2. The Kiev-2 only natively supports 50mm FOV, so you'd need this to accurately frame your shots on the J-12. No fungus or haze.
5.) Carl Zeiss Sonnar 50mm f2 (post-war version - coated, Type II)
The greatest thing about the Kiev-2 is its compatibility with most of the Zeiss lenses that came with the famous Contax rangefinder cameras. These lenses are renowned for their optical performance, and I was lucky enough to find this post-war CZ Sonnar 50/2.
I immediately sent it to Henry Scherer, who is the leading expert in Contax vintage camera gear. He gave it a full overhaul, and I've attached a picture of the service slip. He remarked that it is a Type II version, which means that there are still Zeiss "bubbles" in the glass. These do not degrade image quality - they are actually indicators that this lens is a fantastic performer. Indeed, the pictures I've gotten from this lens confirm this. No fungus or haze! Comes with front lens cap and B&W UV filter.
Price: $250 (includes PayPal fees and insured shipping in CONUS)
