Just moved in and there is water damage to the bedroom wall.
As the title says, I just moved in to my first rental apartment this month, which they spent the last month renovating the unit in May, for a year lease. After the rain storm yesterday, my bedroom wall is already moist and the right wall is wet a significant amount which almost reached the floor. I told the super and he contacted the guy who did the renovation but they left saying they have to wait until the wall dries in order to fix the issue. I called the property management and the landlord told me that it's coming from the roof of the building and going downwards, he mentioned to me he's going to get a roofer next Tuesday to try and get the source of the problem fixed but I have a feeling they knew this was a problem before I moved in.
I just moved in the beginning of June and just finished paying July's rent - I technically haven't even been here for a full month and haven't completed moving all my things and there's already problems. I did get rental's insurance but I'm wondering what are my options here? The lease agreement mentions that any damage or maintenance to the unit I have to give the landlord sufficient time to get this fixed but I have a feeling this might happen again, especially if the source of the problem is structural and not in the unit itself.
This is my first time moving out and I'm already encountering so many problems. Should I give the landlord enough time to get this done to see if they can actually fix this? I don't want to continue paying rent for a place and a room that I'm not 100% sure my things will get damaged in. Should I cut my losses and stay the year and leave as soon as the lease is up? Should I contact my insurance and let them know? Or am I just SOL?
Anyone with any experience close to any of this if you can pass along any useful information I would be super appreciative as this is my first time moving out and I'm so new to all this and it's starting to believe I fell for a bait apartment. Thanks
