Im keeping my old a/c for scrap! Ummm...no you’re not?

Edit: this is turning out to be quite the eye opener, i suddenly feel the urge to go work for someone else. I probably wont, but im certainly bringing a lot of this stuff in the comments up with the boss! And at this point...Am I The Asshole...YES! FML.

Edit 2: after finding out im an asshole from all of you, i had a chat with the boss today. Turns out her son, who hired us, owns both properties of this duplex. The unit belonged to him. He agreed for us to take the unit. She didnt like that and was apparently a bitch about it to everybody. Fuckin Karens man!

So my co-worker drops off equipment for my afternoon changeout, he was passing the supplier and my jobsite so it worked out well for scheduling. The customer says she is keeping the old unit and selling it or scrapping it herself. He explains that she cannot keep the old unit as she is not permitted by law to handle refrigerants and calls to inform the boss. I get informed by the boss. I get there, ahe says nothing about it until she sees that i have the old condenser removed and in the driveway. Now she decides she is going to be a fucking karen from hell about it. She starts spouting off crap like “xcel will give me $1500 rebate if they do the job” and “i googled it and you guys are lying to me”! “Sorry mam, but xcel goves you a rebate depending on the energy efficiency of your new system, not because they took the old one. Also, you must have a type 2 EPA certification to, more or less, even lay a finger on the condenser.” She says “THIS IS BULLSHIT! IM KEEPING IT.”

Now im getting kinda pissed because its 4:00 on a friday, i got beers to drink and shit.

I pretend i had no clue that she was going to question all this and ask her if she would like me to put the old condenser back in and just charge her $1000 for the labor and a little R-22 to make sure it works properly again. Of course this is not what she wants to do and tells me to go agead and finish the job.

I get all done everything but a wrench, gauges and jug of 410 is packed up plus the condenser is ready to load up quick once i put my 3 items away. I come back around the house and this bitch is sitting on the condenser.

“ LADY, GET OFF MY FUCKING SCRAP OR IM CALLING THE COPS!”

“ I’LL CALL THE COPS, YOURE STEALING FROM ME”.

“WHATEVER BITCH”

Cops get there, talk to me first and one helped me load that condenser while the other kept her at bay. I peaced out and whatever happened with her I dont know.

My boss called me laughing his ass off already because he was in disbelief when her son, who lives next door and is our companies insurance agent, called him asking what the fuck and told him what happened.

It should be noted that we are 4 guys total in the company, we have one reclaimer. Whenever possible we pump back into the condenser and reclaim at our shop.
