How much do budtenders in tips?

Discussion

Title pretty much says it all. Hoping to hear from actual budtenders since there's not too much info online and I doubt most report their tips.

The jars at the places I go are always overflowing, like literally hundreds of bills.

From my experience the tips in jars don't go to the person that helped you, they go to the store and get split. I usually give $3-$5 directly to the budtender. I'm sure they make out pretty well on a busy day!

Yeah I figure they get split with everyone besides the security guard. In CA there's always ton of employees besides the final cashier to control access.

I work at a medical dispensary in Ohio and we aren't allowed to take tips. Suppose it makes sense, you probably wouldn't tip your pharmacist...

To be honest, if you’re worried about tips you’re in the wrong part of the industry. The advice I always give new budtenders is to not worry about tips, and talking about it too much is a huge turn off for management if you’re already getting a good base rate of pay. When you do that it WILL reflect on the way you treat people. For instance when someone comes in who is a regular who you know isn’t going to tip you may be more impatient or dismissive of their needs. I treat homeless people who come in best because I know it may be the only place they are treated with respect and are addressed as “sir” or “madam” - it blows my co-workers mind when they leave a tip for me but if you treat people with respect consistently it will pay off more in the end rather than consciously worrying about it.

But you asked for an answer so: our drivers make anywhere from $50-75 in tips a day. They take on average 15 deliveries each. They also get paid mileage and over minimum wage as a base pay in my state. It depends on the budtender and knowledge to be honest. I don’t mean to brag but I have some of the highest tips in our company when I’m behind the counter, part of that could be that I’m a girl (which is what my coworkers claim) but it’s mostly knowledge and trust that gets me there, along with building a very strong relationship with regular customers. In our situation, budtenders make about $50 a shift but more on the weekends, we split cash tips between two budtenders…management/the store doesn’t get anything. We are also one of the only dispensaries that accept credit cards so that helps our tip situation tremendously individually because they are applied separate directly to our paycheck and aren’t split with anyone.

Hope this helps. Good luck in the industry!

I hope none. They're doing their job and that is what a paycheck is for .
