Headphones for high rank Dota and CS?

Headphones - Open Back

I'm looking for something with a little more positional clarity for competitive games. Through doing some lurking, it seems like people really like the ATH-R70x, AKG K712 Pro, and HD600. I'm sort of leaning towards the Audio Technica just from positive past experiences, but the other options look great. I have a somewhat large head and wear a 7 3/8 cap if that info is needed. DAC and amp suggestions are appreciated, too. Any advice at all would be seriously helpful for this audio noob!

Budget: $350-400, not including DAC/amp

Source/amp: None currently, but would love some ideas.

How the gear will be used: Strictly at my desktop, primarily for competitive gaming (most of which is Dota and Counter-Strike), occasionally for music, rarely for single player games and YouTube.

Preferred music genres: Electronic, hip-hop, experimental

Past gear experience: Coming from Sony WH-1000XM3's, and before that I used ATH-50x's.

I wear an XL hats. K712 Pro fits me well. HD6 series, too.

HD660S is what you want for positional audio in gaming in the Sennheiser HD6 series.

the HD600 shouldn't be part of your consideration in the first place LOL. Its good for music, but not for gaming.

The AKG K712 is a pretty good option, do check out the DT770/990 as well

Leaning towards the K712. Would you recommend an amp or DAC with it? How about the Pro version of the K712?

they should all sound the same/similar for it to not be that big of a difference.

An amp is reccomended, something like a JDS Atom would be good
