Painting laminated melamine cupboards

Hi there, I’m renovating my apartment. I want to paint the laminated melamine cupboards white. I saw a YouTube video saying I can do this with enamel paint, with a chalk paint primer. The man at the paint shop said I can use just chalk paint as long as I apply a chalk paint varnish overtop. A few questions:

1. Is chalk paint on its own durable enough?

2. If I do use enamel paint, is there a coating I can apply afterwards to make it matte?

3. How long do you need to wait between coats of enamel paint?
