I’ve only ever heard the “forgive and rise above” quote to justify and enable abuse TW: description of abuse

NSFW

That’s the only time I’ve heard it used. I don’t need to forgive anyone to move on; I can just accept that it happened and live my life.

No, I don’t “hold hatred in my heart” for not forgiving and maintaining a relationship with him. If you want to forgive someone who’s not sorry and keep putting yourself in harm’s way to “rise above” the conflict, fine. But you won’t solve anything that way.

After everything’s he’s done -Putting his hands on me, my mother, threatening us, getting angry over tiny things that would make no normal person take a second glance, even just not being there as much as he should- you still find ways to justify his bullshit.

“My ex-husband put a gun to my head in front of the kids, and they still wanted to talk to him.” (I feel bad for them)

“Did you even see it happen?” (Yes I did)

“He paid full child support every month!” (maybe at first, but he stopped after getting mad at me)

I don’t want to talk to anyone that hurt me, I just don’t. So go ahead and cut contact until I apologize for “treating him so terribly.”
