Is this a grammatically correct sentence?

"I took my life so that I could know rest to die with the sins that were left unprofessed" This is a line from Embracing Nocturnal Damnation by Shadow of Intent and I always wonder why wouldn't it be "I could know THE rest". Is this somehow correct or incorrect? Because I know the band well and this is my only time hearing them ignoring grammar even in a subtle way.
