This people really did not bother to watch any news outside their dark cave for the last year did they.
Lambda is from June 2020. Alpha is from September 2020. Beta is from sometime in late 2020 as well.
I think the Greek names were a little counterproductive. They led to more news stories (“Delta variant” rolls off the tongue better than “B1617.2”) and now these chuds think the variants have suddenly appeared.
To be fair, here in the UK the variants were originally being called after the places they were discovered. I think it is a better idea to use the Greek alphabet so the countries (or more importantly people from those countries) where they are discovered are not blamed.
So now it's all of a sudden bad to blame countries for the virus, what have the world come to? /s
Lambda is from June 2020.
I thought there were only enough variants from Alpha to Kappa. I didn't know about Lambda.

It was mutated the whole time? That's the reason you couldn't get it and then have immunity, because it was mutating
Complete with emojis
That's how diseases work???
Ok now I’m confused about that to. Not trying to say covid isn’t real but can someone explain how the new variants are put after the vax?
Each time a virus reproduces, as with any DNA/RNA based organism, it mutates. Each new host causes a mutation. The more people who get it without getting vaccinated the more chances it has to mutate. The more mutations accrue the more likey it is to branch into a new variant. It happens every year with the flu. There is no flu season but when people start congregating indoors during the fall and winter it starts jumping between more people and begins to rapidly change as it reproduces. I'm not sure if COVID is capable of lateral gene transfer, which is, in basic terms, where a single celled organism can spit out a copy of a strand of DNA/RNA and another that has a similar makeup can incorporate it into its own genetic information. Basically single cells can and often do directly mutate each other.
Huh. Thabks Owen I appreciate that
Welcome! I probably screwed up somewhere in that explanation because I'm just quoting what I remember from biology. I'm just a history major so if any biology majors see this please cut me some slack. 🤣
I mean hey you did a lot better then I did. Was this like highschool biology or did you take a college bio class?
