If you wrote 277 words per day...
...you would have your first draft finished in one year at a length of 101,105 words (101,382 on a leap year). How long does it take you to write 277 quality words not automatically subject to a future rewrite? Can you do it during your morning coffee? Using a dictaphone on the way to the office? After you shower at night but before you turn on the tv? During a lunch break while eating a double roast beef and cheddar? Toilet time?
Strength of commitment is the number one predictor of success, but the word commitment feels daunting. That's because it's a qualitative, amorphous concept. Commitment requires something of you, energy and time, but it provides no terms in return.
Here is the quantitative, mathematically-sound calculus for commitment. 277 x 365 = 101,105.

I think it's important to be forgiving to ourselves too so we don't burn ourselves out. I shoot for 700-100 words per day. Some days I get 1500-1800, and other days I can barely eek out a paragraph. But I'm still making progress! And that's important.
