Calling it now. Adelaide to host the Hawks at GMHBA on Sunday while Geelong play a home game at the G against Richmond.

I was against this game, but now I see a reason for it.

9C_c_comboRichmond '80•

If its empty, and you win the game, does it matter?

Id hold any anger until after the result of the game at minimum.

Edit: was a genuine question.. like if the stadium is empty and you win, does it matter at all?

-10
[deleted]•

I can understand the frustration that Geelong fans would have here. The only reason their home game is not at their home venue is to cater to the increased crowd capacity, correct? When you have no fans allowed, why can't that game be moved to their actual home ground?

14
International_CandyRichmond•

There's also contracts involved, and it sets a bad precedent for any future clubs trying to move matches in the future.

AFL have 6 other matches they have had to reorganize in the past week, they have their hands full.

-2
9C_c_comboRichmond '80•

When you have no fans allowed, why can't that game be moved to their actual home ground?

Sure, but if they win does it matter?

Edit: Im literally just asking that if they win, would the fans be annoyed about the stadium it was played in after the fact... Good lord

-15
iloveNCIS7Geelong AFLW•

its the principal of the matter

10
9C_c_comboRichmond '80•

Fair enough. I couldnt care less if they moved it to GHMBA or kept it at the G. The places are going to be empty and I doubt it would change Richmonds ability to win or lose on the night by much at all and at the end of the day that's all I care about.

0
9C_c_comboRichmond '80•

Surely the fixture will change further from here. Times and locations will be shuffled again.

3
ScoutDuperEssendon •

You would think so, but the AFL seem so adamant that the game has to be at the G. Honestly I expect the Adelaide v Hawks game to get played on Saturday at Marvel, Carlton v North gets moved to Sunday at the G and Geelong does actually get there game at GMHBA.

3
9C_c_comboRichmond '80•

Im talking about every game, not just the Tiges vs Geelong. Will be quite the shuffle.

3

I don't think so, the Port v Pies game will still be Friday night, then just the swap I suggested before.

I am hearing that Port Adelaide v Collingwood has been moved to Victoria Park and Port will wear their heritage jumper and Collingwood will wear an away strip.

Because GWS and Sydney are also in Queensland. It sucks, but it does mean we got into Noosa before the Saints could.

7

Just pause the season for a couple of weeks already

6
9C_c_comboRichmond '80•

Its not nearly that dire yet. If they can get games played now they should. Once they stop the season, it may be even harder to start it up. There is no guarantee that it gets easier to sort the fixture next week, the week after or the week after that and so on and so forth.

Play on until you cant logistically do so

7
MattybixPower•

You make a fair point, just seems of swapping out one locked down city for another is laughable. I suppose the difference is that the SA Government are saying no to football and teams flying in during lockdown while VIC are allowing it. Well...assuming that is the difference. If it's the AFL doing this without the SA government saying Pies can't fly in then fook me!

5
9C_c_comboRichmond '80•

Also, port and crows are not allowed to train - they can in Vic - Vic will likely allow the teams to be isolated and almost do as they need to keep the show running. QLD would remain a solid option again too, with two first class stadiums available, with a few spares, and the experience of having done it before if hubs had to go ahead. I cant see a WA hub happening. Perth stadium will destroy the legs of the last teams to play each week.

3
MattybixPower•

Yeh just saw that the SA clubs can't train, getting them out now is a no brainer I suppose, as disappointed as I am for Boaky's 300th, getting the season to continue is an impressive feat.

Being in WA a Perth based hub would be fantastic, I'm not sure if the concerns about Optus still being a hard surface are lingering, but there are a few more grounds around that would have adequate surfaces, but they would be far too suburban for the AFL no doubt.

I don't see McGowan allowing it even if it was a viable option though.

1
scottkayseePort Adelaide•

Now is the perfect time to pause for 2 weeks... 13m of the population in lockdown, just synergise and pause at the same time to ensure no movement of people across areas and prevent the Delta variant from moving.

This variant takes less than 30 hours for a person to become a spreader meaning normal contract tracing and isolating contacts doesn't work. Best way to stop it is to lockdown immediately, prevent people movements, so infected people can be found/treated before spreading.

States/Country will know within a week (2 tops) if the lockdowns prevent the spread. I don't see the issue with pausing the season, with the rest of the nation, and re-starting once the spread stops.

2
9C_c_comboRichmond '80•

Right so just wait until then and play the next two rounds.

1
scottkayseePort Adelaide•

Wait until then, review and revise the season accordingly.

2
jonsontonGeelong '63•

If you pause, then the gov can keep you paused indefinitely. Even if we start playing fast and loose with the rounds like a BBL fixture, if we can keep playing games we should.

3
xvf9Sydney•

Personally I'd be happy with an Olympics-length pause to the season - I assume the broadcasters would jump at that too...
