Aside from an early scare falling off a cliff into a puddle, I feel like I've done a pretty good job. I just fought and defeated Eye of Cthulu (With a Suspicious Eye I found in a chest). My next couple tasks are to move up to Gold Armor, and fine an accessory with an Arcane enchantment from my Magic Mirror.
Since you have beaten the Eye of Cthulu, are you thinking of getting the Dryad to move in so that you can stock up on purification powder? As I understand in a Dwarf-Mode challenge this would be very helpful in exploring corrupted areas.
Yea, the Dryad and Demolition Man will probably move in soon. I'm gonna spelunk a bit more but the Corruption is the next logical step! I got really lucky finding a suspicious looking eye, but I still can't find a hook :/
The Purification Powders will help a lot!
SO what are the rules for dwarf mode? can you go above 0ft - the dirt background area but still technically underground? I suppose you would have to to spawn EoC
The rule is you go underground and you never go back to the surface at it's most basic. The rules I imposed were my house had to be on the Black Layer, and after my initial descent I am no longer allowed to go to the Dirt Wall layer. (Which I might only break to get Skeletron to spawn.)
I managed to get EoC because I found a Suspicious Looking Eye in a treasure chest, which was completely by chance. EoC can also spawn after a certain amount of time as a random boss encounter, if he isn't willingly encountered.
As far as goals, I just wanna see how far I can get with a hardcore character before I die.
Do you intend on growing trees in the dirt layer (but still underground with a deleted background) by buying acorns from the dryad? Or are you getting all of your wood from underground houses?
I tried growing a tree, it didn't work. Grass doesn't even spread at that depth, so I think any hopes of Above-Ground Flora working for me are moot.
Any wood I get is from underground houses, which has actually worked out pretty well so far.
You can buy grass seeds from the dryad as well.
For growing a tree it needs no background and at least 3 spaces of open, unused dirt to the left and right of it, and 16 available blocks above it.
