Interesting that England doesn't have any batsman in the top 10 other than Malan, yet Malan is someone who's place in the team doesn't seem as secure as others.

GoldenFootball286:England: England •

I don't know how these ratings are calculated but I'd imagine they rely heavily on runs scored instead of strike rate. Therefore as England players have a whack and therefore get more inconsistent scores they don't get much icc player rating. Malan playing as more of an anchor will get more rating than Roy because of this.

At least that's my theory

Sibblin•

Malan also has a crazy good strike rate, it was >150 before this last series.

Its the way he scores his runs thats the problem. If he pulls it off, it's often a matchwinner. If he gets settled then gets out (as he did yesterday) it can be a match loser. His position is pretty much in competition with Root, and personally I'd rather have Root.

Then perhaps Moeen at 3 would be better?

Tbh Ali shouldn't really be in the side either.

oliver_bread_twist:Lahore_Qalandars: :PSL_Trophy: Lahore Qalandars•

Moeen has been shuffled around here and there for so long, but with that said, I also do feel it's used as an excuse to justify his failures. He's been on a decline for a fair while now in International cricket; I frankly don't think that him being told "just go out there and do what you want, Jos and Livvy to cunt it after you" is a good enough reason or will benefit his own batting in any way.

He'll make an odd 30 in 10 games, then score a classic 11 (12), tonk one freely to long-on, and walk back.

In terms of his bowling merit, he bowled well yesterday but the pitch was doing everything for the spinners; the deliveries he normally would bowl would've been dispatched at back of a length, or swept cleanly.

GamingNerd7•

He plays like Virat. Just that Virat succeeds more often.

Yeah I think you're right. Bairstow, Buttler and Roy are definitely better T20 batters than Malan and I think any team would rather have one of those 3 than him, yet they're not close to being top ranked.

6
Snave96•

The thing that continually comes up with Malan is that he bogs down the innings (as he did yesterday). The role he plays for me would be played just as well if not better by Root. I do think Malan is a good bat it's just England have so much batting talent at the moment.

Rizwan is really making a case for himself. Hope Azam and Rizwan continue opening

Rajkumar1992India•

KL one of our top ranked Bats but has no place in the World Cup XI according to some fans. Genius.

35
Unholysinner•

Look at Malan.

There’s a chance he gets dropped for livingstone and he’s the number one T20i batter. And the main reason is he takes too long to get going which doesn’t fit the play style of the rest of the team.

Rahul should have a spot in the side but I get why people debate it

27
peter_griffins:Royal_Challengers_Bangal: Royal Challengers Bangalore•

I sure hope they dont select the World Cup XI based on rankings

26
Rajkumar1992India•

Cept for the fact KL didn’t actually ever got out of Top 10/15 once he got there iirc.

He’s one of our most consistent T20I Batsman.

16
ipindrama:Royal_Challengers_Bangal: Royal Challengers Bangalore•

I mean, he is in he top 10 for a reason. 4 bad games don't change the fact that he has been one of our best.

10
anuraag09Mumbai Indians•

Because he's trying to bat in a manner which is not his role in the team

You could clearly see fear of failure whenever he bats thesedays which makes him even more cautious

16
cutecat003:Royal_Challengers_Bangal: Royal Challengers Bangalore•

Nah he's an easy selection.

Kl Rohit Kohli Sky Pant Hardik Jadeja Someone Bhuvi Bumrah Chahal

This is probably going to be the starting XI. The only debate was number 4 and SKY and Iyer were competing for that spot. With iyers injury and Sky's form, SKY will start. That number 8/ 3rd seamer spot will be Shami/Chahar/Nattu/Thakur/Saini/Siraj. Whoever is in form.

14
soham_katkar13:Mumbai_Indians: Mumbai Indians•

Someone = Washington or Natarajan depending on the bowling conditions and whether Hardik is bowling or not. Maybe Deepak or Shardul instead of Nattu to have a handy no.8 bat

4
cutecat003:Royal_Challengers_Bangal: Royal Challengers Bangalore•

Yeah Washington too could be an option.

5
anuraag09Mumbai Indians•

Natarajan should be bhuvi's backup imo

We really need a wicket-taker as our third bowler since both bhuvi and bumrah are struggling to take wickets in first 6

Deepak Chahar/Shami/Siraj are the options that they can try, maybe Shardul too but he needs to be more economical

Kohli is the GOAT in T20I cricket and still has no place in the team for some analysts, this is nothing compared to it

8
Rajkumar1992India•

That Kohli post was clearly clickbait to get more views now that we think about it but many want KL out the team for real.

It’s just unbelievable that many wanna dump KL in his best format while want him back in his worst format.

8
PsychologicalArt7451:Royal_Challengers_Bangal: Royal Challengers Bangalore•

It's the shikhar Dhawan effect. No matter how, he will somehow make it into the team.

It's a real shame Dawid Malan doesn't play for South Africa.

32
NamanJani:Saurashtra: Saurashtra•

I don't get it. Expleen.

6
Nervestapled•

His parents are South African. He has an Afrikaans name. He was born in England, but he was educated in South Africa. So as far as cricket goes, he used South Africa to become a cricketer, and then turned traitor, just like Kevin Pietersen and so many others.

12
NamanJani:Saurashtra: Saurashtra•

Me dumb. Me can't tell you are joking or being serious. But thank you for the explanation.

9
Nervestapled•

You're not dumb. I assume English isn't your first language, so it's okay. My comment is serious, but also a bit of a joke.

2
[deleted]•

He's just as South African as Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin must have spent a few years in total here during his career.

9
Nervestapled•

His family isn't South African, and he didn't grow up in south Africa.

4
GamingNerd7•

Also, Conway... and Pieterson...and Roy...and Labuschagne... and many more

Indeed. The "English" cricket team is just expats.

Wait, didn't babar just have an average series?

1
KurulusUsman:Pakistan: Pakistan•

Yeah, 39.33 average at 151.28 S/R is not spectacular for Babar (gained 5 points), but Malan had a brutal series with an average of 11 and a S/R of 75 (lost 47 points).

3
GamingNerd7•

39.33 average at 151.28

Ohh that's really good. I didn't see the numbers but remembered he just had 1 fifty and failed in other matches so he won't have good numbers.
