Finding the right therapist- RELIEF and a simple truth observation about when it's time to find a new one.
I just wrapped up my first session but second conversation with a new therapist today. I want to point out something that seems so simple now in hindsight: I'm so accustomed to this existential pain that I am slow to recognize real feelings of relief. Cannabis relieves some symptoms, Adderall others, but the relief I just felt from that single session was kind of.... Orgasmic. Look, if you're in therapy constantly wondering about the efficacy- if one of your goals is to smoke less pot, or feel more (whatever it is you want to feel) and you just aren't feeling like you're getting closer to those goals it might be time to leave. And you may be so accustomed to existential dread that you can't recognize that therapy sessions are actually contributing.
If it feels like the writing is on the wall, it might be time to internalize the message and move on. Remember, sometimes we're the last to trust the validity of our own insights.
