About to sell my 09😭

SpiteAspectOP•

I’ve only had this for a couple days and I know I’d miss it if I got rid of it

Complex-Crow-4878•

Just watch your tranny my started grinding in 3rd till it was gone then it was all down hill after that

13
Cptdank7•

Had an 08 civic si coupe, 3rd started grinding. Changed the transmission fluid with AMS oil, never had a problem after that!

johnnywong924•

Changing the clutch master cylinder helps as well.

How many miles was it at when it started acting up? Just curious because I was considering picking one of these beauties up to accompany my work beater 09 r18 (same silver as yours) automatic in the driveway. I'm trying to collect ownership stories to map out general part failure windows so I can pick the right SI and know what I'm looking for in terms of possible future problems with it and what to buy for preventative maintenance.

Former 8th gen Si owner. Third gear can grind, but doesn't require complete transmission replacement. If its really bad, shift forks and inner rebuild. Rear brake caliper pins are notorious, same as the horn switch. Compliance bushings and wheel bearings are also a bit weak.

Mine made it to 210,000kms before it got written off by some dumb bitch on her phone. I loved that car and am trying to find another one.

Complex-Crow-4878•

Mine was at 165,000 but I've seen these trans last up to 250,000 it all depends on how well it was maintained and if the owner wouldn't beat on it everywhere. When i got mine i had to get a new cmc and fluid change because it wouldn't shift at high rpms and he would drive it like this

Peeeheeuuu•

I have an 07 si sedan currently at 244k miles and racking fast cause I drive just about 100 miles a day for work. No issues at all.

[deleted]•

Is this a problem in 5 speeds as well? I've got an 08 EX-L, with about 150k miles.

1
Complex-Crow-4878•

Every transmission has its issues just don't beat it all day everyday and change your fluid. You'll be fine

1
KawiNinjaZX•

Wasn't that mostly 06-08?

1
hellish_ve2010 Honda Civic Si Sedan•

afaik the grinding issue was solved in the 09-11 models.

0
snizzletoff•

completely wrong. The entire generation of 8th gens has the same issues. they gave it a face lift nothing changed in the trans or CMC.

Adjusting the CMC for more throw or upgrading the CMC and swapping trans fluid regularly helps. Use amsoil or OEM, i used oem changes very often on my 8th gen.

SoopahDoopahPoopah•

8th gens are mega underrated, I only wish I got the sedan instead of the coupe🥲

Last civic with dual vtec and all the high rpm goodness

Last of the true screamers, they're already going up in value

3
KawiNinjaZX•

I dont know people don't seem to stop talking about them.

6
SpiteAspectOP•

Yeah the coupes look goofy to me, I considered one but the sedan is just more practical too

3
Sir_ThomasSawyer•

No they are not lol. They are one of the most loved Honda’s.

3
SoopahDoopahPoopah•

Really? I always see the EG and EK civics being the most praised

I have a serious soft spot for 8th gen Si sedans

Great car, take it autocrossing. You'll have a ton of fun!

4

If I ever get my 91 hatch going again it will be the autocross machine

Great car with a lot of potential.

Love the look of the 8th gen sedans! Congrats

3

Congrats. This was my favorite Si I’ve owned

Awesome! I had an ‘08 from ‘08-‘14 and put 166k in the clock. I see a lot of comments about the clutch. For me it was also 3rd gear ~120k, it wasn’t bad at all but I’m anal and noticed something was a little off. I was able to tighten the clutch cable connection at the pedal inside the cabin with a 10mm (iirc) - I really liked the way it felt with the tighter pedal and quicker clutch engagement. Also it was smooth into 3rd after that and my buddy who bought it never mentioned it. The clutch can last 300k (yes) if you don’t dump it a lot. I hope you like it I loved mine! Def use redline or amsoil I can’t say enough about good quality oils. Cheers!!

3
SpiteAspectOP•

I’ll have to look into changing the fluid with some redline or Amsoil, I’m assuming (hopefully) that it has OEM Honda MTF the clutch on mine feels fairly stiff but in a good way.

The 06-08 wheels look a lot better than the 09-11 wheels.

Someone put a shitty aftermarket head unit in so it doesn’t work and neither do the steering wheel buttons, I wanna get a double din so I can make that stuff work again, I’m sure there’s a way to do it

Always preferred the sunflowers over the ones that came on this gen

2
TheSunflowerSeeds•

You thought sunflower oil was just for cooking. In fact, you can use Sunflower oil to soften up your leather, use it for wounds (apparently) and even condition your hair.

So sexy. I love it. Enjoy the ride dude

Ugh with the sunroof too? I've always wanted one

2

I thought all Si’s had sunroofs

1
TheSagaContinued•

That may be true. I've never had one

It wasn't an SI but my '14 Civic got me $130K with no significantly expensive repairs. I put it into a tree going about 50 so had to get a new one...

I have a 11 Si I had a 10 a few years back currently workin on the FD conversion!

2

Nice! This was my dream car when it came out in 2006. They were hard to get and marked up and I ended up getting a used 2002 RSX type S.

I still want an Si.

2
SpiteAspectOP•

I was looking at RSXs when I was shopping for these, they’re so much more expensive than these in my area and older too lol
