Listen to music.
It becomes a series of mini objectives, basically turning it into game for my own amusement.
This is a great idea, thanks!
For real, that mentality can surprisingly get you through a LOT of eyeball-rolling, yawn-inducing, tear-your-hair-out-WHY-is-this-part-of-my-job type tasks.
working night shift the most boring parts of my job is literally doing nothing for hours on end. which is honestly pretty great. i bring a backpack full of things to keep me occupied. a book to read. a portable charger in case im not near a wall outlet. a wall charger. wired headphones and 2 bluetooth headphones. my phone. and my laptop. maybe some snacks. etc.
as is often the case, if im given a boring assignment ill just use the time to watch movies, catch up on tv shows, read, browse reddit, look at memes, do my homework, play video games on my computer. etc. basically the same things i would do if i was at home. all the while getting a kick out of the fact that im getting paid to do exactly what i would be doing at home!
I start shit or a rumor and see how far it gets by lunch. Bonus points if it makes a full round back to me.
Example; I’ll start a rumor that my teamster friend heard we’re having supply chain issues and we’ll go home early due to lack of parts. Then we wind up running 2hr overtime
Try to remember that in the grand scheme of things, none of this shit really matters.
That, and there's always a cold frosty beer, two dogs, and a loving woman waiting for me at home. It's corny, but go watch the opening to King of Queens. As you grow up (I'm 26 fyi), I imagine that resonates more.
