How is average calculated ? He’s just got one 94+ score in 2021 !

12

not outs dont count, and he went not out some 6-7 times this year.

49

Yeah, makes sense now !

Averages are a bad representation is LOC especially T20s

Would rather prefer a predicted score (total runs/innings) at SR for <insert batting position>

5
lightningblazes:Chennai_Super_Kings: Chennai Super Kings•

I agree to a certain degree, but since Rizwan opens the batting it's still very impressive and he still strikes at 140 so it's a dangerous combination.

10
-PapaLegba:ICC: ICC•

It's impressive (his average & SR) no doubt. Still doesn't give you an accurate representation of his expected score per innings.

Let's crunch some numbers when he bats at* 1st position (grouping positions would also do)

https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/323389.html?class=3;template=results;type=batting

  • Expected runs/innings: 52.12 (834/16)
  • No out % = 37.5% (6/16)
  • SR = 139.69 (834/597)

I personally find this to be a better representation than avg 83.4 & SR 139.69

People in Pakistan use to be sarcastic with that statement including me, but this guy changed the way of thinking for all of us, deffo a literal meaning of 'waqt badal dia, Jazbat badal diye'.

Was he a bad player before?

2
splash9936:Pakistan: Pakistan•

He used to play down the order and couldnt keep up with the expectations of a finisher

9
[deleted]•

Not like specifically a *bad* player but didn't had enough chances to prove himself, plus he wasn't playing in the correct position as well, he was sent to bat at 6 or 5 where u need to play as a hitter and he was struggling to do so, so people started to say he can't hit sixes so Misbah changed his batting order to let him open and BANG:

Hits winning runs against NZ in NZ, and later making and his Maiden Century in T20i hitting 7 6s and 6 4s!

MashaAllah se He's been really good in t20is!

I shudder to think what would've happened if Riz didn't hit that 89 in the 3rd NZ t20. He'd probably be a specialist keeper at 6. Props to Misbah and co for backing him in that series even after 2 failures.

Could've easily just shoved Haider and Abdullah up in the name of "investing in youngsters".

This is the real answer, Pakistan players only comes good due to luck in selection, not because of management selection which is pretty braindead and hierarchical

I can see Pakistani players getting moulded into future legends.. and a start of a new era for Pakistani cricket.. averaging 94 in t20 is just nuts even a finisher can't do that

46
vdix007:India: India•

A start of a new era would generally require the team to not be dependent on just two batsmen

39
Mr_4country_wide:Pakistan: Pakistan•

what if they were really really good batsmen and could consistently carry

qazi_with_an_h:Peshawar_Zalmi: Peshawar Zalmi•

Pakistan Cricket will boom post-WC this year. Maqsood and Fakhar are in a slump, We're actively working on developing middle order batsmen in the PSL and we have like 2-3 international standard bowlers available in each franchise, so I imagine this problem won't last long, though the WC might be a slightly rough patch if the middle order isn't sorted by then.

How has been Not Out 6 times as an opener??? Mind boggling

His average without the Not Outs is still like, 53, which is still really good

In 2018, dhawan averaged 40ish at a SR I of 147, and scored that many runs in 17 innings.

27
GoobeNanmaga•

Chasing.

vvb_12:India: India•

Dhawan in the list was bit surprising but that's Dhawan. He scores a lot of runs. Even in IPL he casually scores 500+ runs. It's just sad that he may not get a single game in WT20. His little test career is also not that bad and undoubtedly he is absolutely great in 50 overs.

Where was Rizwan for all these years? Players like him and Surya (I know he has a lot to prove) are great inspiration for many youngsters. The fact that we have WT20 this year I don't see his record getting broken easily.

26
aaronupright•

Where was Rizwan for all these years

He made his debut as part of the youngster group brought in post the 2015 CWC (the same one which brought Babar Azam and Hassan Ali). He became second choice keeper behind Sarfaraz, which was a mistake IMO, but that crystalied once Sarfaraz became Captain.

It was becoming more and more problematic to keep him out, we tried, he played something like 50 LOI matches as a batsman or when Sarfarz was injured/rested. After CWC2019 and the disatserous Sri Lanka series, he became our no 1.

Those who follow Pakistan domestic cricket were screaming his praises for years.
