Returning Player: What's up with NV Units?

I just downloaded the game after a couple year break. Can someone explain these neo-vision units to me? I blew all of my tickets and lapis on the FFVII remake banner and have gotten 1 each of NV Tifa, Aerith, Rain, Lasswell and Reagan, Royal Puppeteer Aphmau, and Yoshikiri. I'm assuming these are the OP units that 7stars were the last time I played? And what's with the card that is unlocked each time I summon one? Thanks!

NV are the new best thing.

Some 7* units are getting neo-vision awakening(NVA).

The cards are equips for NV/NVA units.

NV Sephiroth is coming.

NV units is basically 8* units. The gacha was reset, and the 5* base units were basically bumped down a tier (they have a 10% rate like the old 4* units, while 4* units now have the same rarity as 3*).

Unlike 7* units, NV units are useful right out the gate. You can level them to full and make use of their abilities right away. NV Units can get stronger by using shards, which are obtained either by summoning a duplicate, buying it from the exchange shop (vip coins, summon coins, etc), or waiting for a Shard Dungeon Event.

When you use these shards to "awaken" an NV unit, they gain more stats, skills, and bonuses. The first time you awaken them, they'll get an alternate form called a Brave Shift. Usually this shift is a change in role, such as a Tank turning into Damage, or a Mage turns into an Evoker. This gives you a new set of skills and has its own equipment set.

Some 7* units can be upgraded to NV, called a Neo Vision Awakening (NVA). To do this, you need a 7* unit with it's STMR earned, and then 25 shards. This typically means having 5 copies of a single unit (which is easier now since the rainbow rate is really high now).
