Can we end tenancy due to insect infestations (ants)
There is a infestation of ants in our kitchen. We have had the pest control come twice already. The last time he came he told us that these type of ants are extremely hard to get rid of and that they are likely in the walls of the house. He did put down a type of ant dust were he saw them coming in the house, in the bottom corner behind the fridge. We live in a basement suite of a house. At first they were just getting on the counters but last night we noticed they are inside the cupboards and getting into any food that was not in a sealed container. So all of our flour, Sugar, cereals, etc had to be thrown out as there were ants all through the food. The landlords are very aware of this problem as they are the ones that keep sending the pest control out. My concern is now that I have talk to the pest control guy myself and am aware that these ants will not go away and are in the walls I feel like this is a health concern for my family. Can I break our signed year lease without penalty and get out of this ant infested place? At this point we can not leave any food in our cupboards or counter as they are everywhere.
This is a picture from last night when I discovered them inside the cupboards.
Thank for any advice.
