Decided to go mostly vegan/plant-based to improve my health.
A little backstory: I'm 26. Was a meat-eater till 13 then went pescatarian till 15 and full vegetarian to 18. I started eating meat once back in college because I went to The University of Alabama and it was hard finding vegetarian meals in the deep south then. I was in great shape until college as well until I started letting myself go. About a year I started doing keto to lose weight and my diet was filled with high-fat meat and cheeses (buying into that diet was one of my biggest mistakes. It is NOT good for you)
Now I am 26 and just went for my yearly physical. My cholesterol was sky high and my blood pressure was elevated. I am slightly overweight (5'5 and 173lbs) and want to change my life around. I decided that the best way to do that was to go vegan. It has been a week of eating mostly vegan/plant-based food (I had fish a few times). My pressure is back to normal and I am seeing a cardiologist on Thursday to get an assessment. I also lost a couple of lbs without even really trying. It's only been a week and I am already feeling healthier. I plan to continue to eat the occasional fish and chicken but plan to go full vegan in a few months. Today I went grocery shopping and filled my cart with so many amazing veggies and vegan meals. I had a vegan BLT for lunch (with soy bacon) and am making a cauliflower pizza with vegan cheese for dinner.
It's quite amazing what a plant-based diet can do in such little time. I look forward to seeing even more great results and living a plant based life!
