Betting through apps in Vegas.

I'll be going to Vegas and have some questions about betting through the app.

  1. I know the casinos started using mobile apps to bet on mobile without going to counter.

  2. I assume, go to counter, deposit money into account

  3. Use app to bet

  4. Go to counter when done to withdraw.

Questions:

  1. How many different apps are there? Caesers / mgm / westgate / circa

  2. Do they all have relatively the same odds or are the opportunities to line shop/arb

  3. How do drink tickets work betting through the app

  4. Can I download the apps now and see the lines? Or do I have to be in NV to download / see odds and need an account first.

  5. Do the apps offer props and live betting?

Re: your specific questions:

For any of the apps, you have to go to the book in person, fill out a paper application, & make a deposit. Some apps you can download before this step, some you can't (or can, but can't see anything until you login once you've made an acct). There's about 10 books available, but half are basically worthless. They do not hang the same lines, arbing probably won't be worth your time but line-shopping is always a must. Check vegasinsider.com to see if you're getting a bad line. "How do drink tickets work betting through the app?" That's the neat part - they don't.

If you're just coming here for a short vacation I would say it mostly depends on where you're staying & what your transportation options are. If you have a car it doesn't matter. If you're staying downtown I would say get Circa & Boyd. If you're staying on the strip I would suggest William Hill & MGM.

Re: other general info & which books to target:

(Copypasted from a past thread but not yet outdated:)

I've lived here for almost 4 years & have gotten a taste of just about every book in town, so I'll try to give you whatever info I have to set you off in the right direction.

Circa - out of respect let's start here. Owner Derek Stevens has quickly become a sportsbetting giant, & is very widely repected. On top of that he has brought a bit of "old-school-Vegas" back to downtown. That may sound strange in that Circa is the new hotness, & yes it is fucking beautiful, but he also was known (pre-pandemic) to be the owner who walks the floors, stops by the satellite bars, shakes hands with employees, etc. People really seem to love him & love working for him. There was a guy I met back when Circa first opened their book at The D - he was just a ticket-writer, had just moved to town & that was the first job he got. Now he sets the NFL futures lines. Fucking A, man.

On the sportsbetting side, Circa has become the main market-maker in town. They have a satellite book at Tuscany off-strip, & IIRC at least one or two additional locations in other states. They are often the first to market, offer the highest limits & BAR NONE the best place in town to watch a game. Their app is still pretty new though, & they don't offer much InPlay yet, but they say they're working on it. Not much small-market stuff as of yet either. But for NFL or any other major market event, Circa should be your go-to.

Westgate - they got their notoriety for the SuperContest every year but they rarely have the best lines anymore. App is OK & from time to time they do have lines that are hard to find elsewhere.

William Hill - they moved into town a little bit before I got here. From my understanding there was a company called CG Gaming that rented out space in casinos that didn't want to run their own book. CG went under & WHL came in to buy up all their locations. Then Caesars bought WHL. They have the most locations around town, you can load your account with a barcode at 7-11, & they have a wide variety of sports as well as InPlay.

Stations - lots of locations around town, & used to be billed as a locals' favorite. One of their slogans is still "We ❤ locals". These motherfuckers. Since the Fertitta's bought them, they've gone to shit, imo. They treat their employees like shit - they don't even give them uniforms, just t-shirts for chrissakes. They completely fucked off the Palms - they just sold it for less than they spent to renovate it. Idiots. Pretty shit lines, reputation to limit players just as quickly as WHL, but on the plus side they are the only other app besides WHL that you can load at a 7-11, & they are ok on InPlay. They have more than WHL but less than Boyd (which I'll get to next). Their app is super clunky though. Often enough the InPlay props will be super disorganized, & they'll leave stuff up that they've already taken off the board, so you don't always know if what you're trying to bet is actually available. <Update: they recently upgraded their app & it looks better, but could still use some improvement. They're still the only app which you can't access if you're charging your phone - "please disconnect USB">

Boyd - this is more of a true locals favorite. They're the company behind Gold Coast, New Orleans, Sam's Town, & a few others. They're smaller so I made the mistake of sleeping on them for awhile, but their app is one of my favorites. Lots of availability, lots of InPlay, probably the most in town. Not always the best lines. Sometimes juiced wayyy over the top, to be honest. But I do like them.

MGM - very little experience, hard to say much bad about them & I can't quite put my finger on why they're not one of my favorites. One of the reasons is convenience. This is one of the books you have to go to in person for any transactions, & although they have a number of locations, I believe most if not all are on the strip. This means parking (still free at Tropicana I think), & a LONG walk to MGM or Excalibur. Just kind of a hassle is all. They do have a lot in InPlay, but I wasn't overly enthused.

SouthPoint - feel free to go for the history, to meet Jimmy Vaccaro & grab a couple hot dogs, but their lines are very rarely the best & they have little to no InPlay. They'll take big limits though.

Can skip Golden Nugget & Treasure Island without missing anything. Promos are few & far between. Don't fall for any rollover bullshit anyway. WHL does give you cash back rewards each season though (winter, spring, summer, fall, not sport seasons).

<Update: I haven't yet, but need to check out M Resort on the south edge of the city. This is a Tony Marnell joint - he was a bigtime construction guy in Vegas, & made his own move to build The Rio. Sold it to CZR & built The M Resort. Nice looking place, drove past it a few times, but haven't been yet. Heard nothing but good things, might need to make an account there & check it out.>

BOL!

Thank you. I too am a Vegas resident.... just tired of the William Hill app🤦🏽‍♂️

It's not great, but the most important thing is to get several outs available for line shopping. Sticking with any one solitary book is the worst possible move. And if you do a lot of live betting, make sure to get BYD & STN as well. BOL.

This is all great info thanks. I def want to line shop, but I'll keep the convience factor in mind. I think I'll still be able to use my online books as well.

I was in Vegas in May. I only signed up on MGM though, not sure what others are out there.

  • Had to go to an MGM-owned casino and sign up there and deposit there w/ cash, couldn't deposit via paypal/e-check/etc in the app.
  • Downloaded the app through a direct link instead of app store, that may have changed since then though. I assume they at least have an official iOS app given side loading is not possible on iOS.
  • MGM app was the same as other states, same props and live betting that you'd expect.
  • I was given a drink ticket after signing up, not sure if you can get more through the app.
  • Went back to sportsbook to withdraw.

Thanks for the info. I don't see the mgm betting app in the play store. Only the one used for checking in.

I see this, but Nevada is not listed as one of the states supported in the app description - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.playmgm.nj.sports

I Live in Vegas and i mainly go to Westgate if you check the odds it usually a little different than MGM or William Hill & Also Westgate has one of the best sports books to watch the games if you like doing that Also. But there are lots of betting apps in Vegas.

I just visited MGM grand this past weekend I just went the sportsbook and asked them how do you bet through the app they’ll walk you through everything they were very helpful and they’ll give out free drink tickets which you just take to the bar area right there. They betmgm app works for all mgm casinos other casinos not mgm brands have something every similar it’s really easy once you get set up they have a person that will help you.
