Anyone running a Stream Deck through a powered USB hub? Can you?

Question

Trying to minimize the number of wires I have running into my pc and I'm new to USB hubs (and Stream Deck for that matter).

I have both USB 3.0 and USB-C ports on my pc if that matters. I'm considering a USB 3.0 powered hub.

Thank you.

Yes. I had a non-powered one originally, and there were definite performance issues. No problems now.

All your issues went away when you switched to powered?

Thanks for the info.

Correct.

I'm running mine through a multi-port KVM switch and I would say it works just fine like 95% of the time. Every so often I have to unplug the stream deck. By every so often I mean over the past year of owning it maybe like....4 times.

Yes. I'm using Caldigit Element Hub. Its a power USB C Hub with USB C and USB A ports.

Yep, I run mine through a cheap, powered Anker hub from Amazon and it works just fine.

Is the hub powered from the usbc output on your device?

It's not, just regular USB-A

I have the same hub and every time I try plugging it in it says usb device not recognized

I’m running it on an unpowered 8port USB hub. Also connected are mouse, keyboard, webcam x2, ringlight, with no issues at all

Running mine on a powered Rosonway 7 port USB 3.0 hub I bought off Amazon Japan. Also attached is a USB hard drive, USB speakers, and a USB headset/mic. No issues at all with it.

Wow, really?

Reading I've done elsewhere, people are saying their powered hub can't run their hard drive, mic or their Stream Deck, let alone all of them. It's so hard to know what's accurate. Guess I'll just purchase one and hope for the best.

I have a powered hub with the Stream Deck, a thumb drive, a webcam, a UPS and lightning charger hooked up to it and have no issues.

Great to hear!

What hub are you running?

this Sabrent one from Amazon. I used to have more things connected to it (pre Stream Deck) but I got tired of having so many peripherals attached and eliminated several.

Yeah, that's the same one I was considering. Nice to hear you've had a good experience with it. Thanks for the help.

You’re welcome. I’ve never really had a bad experience with Sabrent products.

You can, but you may experience bugs and have to unplug it and plug it back in from time to time. I’m running mine off a powered usb hub along with everything else for my laptop, including a usb ssd

Which hub are you using?

I don’t know…lol it was a hub I got as a promotional From a vendor think it’s an anker but I’ll check in a few minutes when I get back to my desk.

No worries. Was just curious, if it was convenient.

Hubs generally cause lag since it’s not directly to the motherboard, it will work, but at a delay.

1
SenatorMittensOP•

What hub are you using that's causing lag? And what are you running through it? No one else has mentioned lag.

2
vharrison1984•

I’m not experiencing lag, though some users may. I’m directly to the motherboard.

Mine works in a powered hub with no delay.

Which hub?

I have an Insignia 3.0 Superspeed

Yes, I'm running mine just fine via an Aukey 7-port powered hub. I'm running a couple of 3.5" HDD's and an Elgato HD60S+ capture device and have had no issues with it so far. I think a good quality powered hub seems to be the key. It isn't worth going for a cheap no-brand hub in the long term in my opinion as the ports usually fail at some point down the line.
