T-Mobile data breach
If you aren't using a non-SMS based 2FA, and you have T-Mobile, this would be a good time to start

Sloppy sods!
So many companies demand data. It's crap. Sod off!
I like 2FA better than TFA.
Sorry, typo. Yes, 2FA all the way!
T-mobile still exists?!
….yes? It’s like the 3rd largest carrier in the US
Oh pretty ignorant of me,
Here in the U.K they used to be huge but are now very low tier. Their deals are terrible

They merged with Sprint. I believe they are now the 5th largest phone carrier in the world and 2nd largest in the US.

This probably explains the spike in scam calls and e-mails I’ve gotten recently
You and me both.
I’m wondering if there’s anything I should do preemptively. I’m only on my parent’s plan instead of getting my own, but my phone number is likely still exposed
You could try and get a new phone number. I mean they can always say no.
If you are on T-Mobile they recommend several actions: change your password, change your pin, and sign up for McAfee identification protection (which T-Mobile will pay for).
You might also consider enabling Google 2FA for any logins or changes to your T-Mobile account so you don’t get sim swapped.
