So while this MIGHT be a thing, a quick google shows people noticing a bright moon back in 2019, 2015 etc etc. It's possible that they just have a supermoon schedule or something.

I did notice the other day in Gyr Abania (the Fringes, I think) the moon seemed awfully spectacular and I've barely noticed the moon in my eight years of playing

I just checked out the different areas and for me, it seems like the moon is a lot brighter in ARR and HW areas but not in SB or SHB areas.
Edit: I just flew around a bit in sea of clouds and only moving a bit of a distance changes the brightness dramatically, probably just a perspective and lighting thing that makes it appear so bright.

I'll accept that as a possibility too. I think I'll just keep an eye open going forward

Thing is, environment changes like this are based on where you are in the story.
I'd be interested to see if someone who isn't fully caught up on MSQ is seeing the same moon changes as someone who is fully caught up.

Imagine if its another calamity? Yoshida said that FFXIV will continue to be developer after endwalker but imagine if its another calamity and this time its to take the game from the PS3 engine to the PS5 engine.

I do hope that there is an option to allow your WoL to retire. In ARR, Legacy players got special cutscenes and dialogue about how they were in 1.0, but non-Legacy players started ARR as a newbie adventurer. I’d like to have that option at the end of 6.0.
Granted, it would be awkward to deal with the power difference of a random adventurer vs the WoL. But I still like the idea of the WoL being able sit back and relax on their island farm while a new generation takes up the cause.

All those are not exactly in conflict with each other. Seeing what PS02 did i think its possible. It might not be a cataclysm but might still be a world changing event.

They say there's no graphics upgrade but the male Viera faces in the benchmark are noticeably higher res than the extant character models, and all the gear shown off looks like it's had a solid texture overhaul.
It's not a big flashy one like wow had many many moons ago, but they're plugging away back there.
