Thank you for being an adult and having a proper title.

Yes. So many horrible titles in this sub

I would rather this than us overpay tbh

48
Melman17•

And no RB in sight. What an absolutely shitshow

QTsexkittenMOSHIRI OUT•

I'd be very curious to see our big board of prospects and how many clubs we genuinely reaches out to. I know we reached out to more than Rangers and Arsenal, but the media just has us linked with those two and we failed on both and now we're screwed again. Genuinely, though, did we make a single effort for a RB from the continent? From South America? How on Earth did we have months to sort it and we pooped the bed again?

pr1ceisright•

I’ve always wanted to be a fly on the wall for these moments and calls. Once the window is closed what else do you have to do as director besides make a giant database of targets. We hear about a few negotiations but I’d love to hear from the club Brands just completed his calls to 50 different clubs on their RB’s.

The inevitable collapse at the end of the season leaving us out of Europe and thus constricted by FFP might be enough to actually kill me this year.

27
WRDEFC•

Not spending c. £20m per year on a third left wide forward is far, far better in FFP terms than maybe marginally enhancing our chances of Europe

You’ve had us down as finishing around tenth all season so hard to see how this signing would add three or four positions

4
QTsexkittenMOSHIRI OUT•

I had us finishing 10th and I stand by that, but that's before I had hope. You know what that does to a man.

3
pr1ceisright•

And just remember how much came off the wage book this summer. Lots of deadwood finally had their contracts run out. At one point we were set up for Ancelotti guiding us through Europe with a lot of wages cleared for new exciting players. How things change…

2
PaddedChaosLounge•

Still so much to go, though. Not saying the term 'dead wood' applies to all of them, but I think we'd have expected Kenny, Delph, Tosun, James and maybe Gomes to leave by this time on deadline day, but here we are. Unfortunately, football finances outside the Premier League have shifted to the point where teams that would've been ideal homes for some of these players have been priced out of it. Benfica couldn't afford Gomes, Porto couldn't afford James, Besiktas couldn't afford to re-sign Tosun.

him921•

If we don't get Europe this year, there's questions to be asked.

-6
QTsexkittenMOSHIRI OUT•

The mid-upper table fight is going to be brutal, and if you think for one second that Europe is likely or in any way guaranteed, I've got some really really bad news for you.

22
him921•

To be fair, who am I kidding. Everyone else has strengthened and we've gone... Sideways?

richarliesheen•

Rafa has us playing better football than we were for most of last season. But Leicester, Leeds, West Ham, Spurs, Aston Villa, Arsenal (if they sack their shit manager and bring someone in who knows what he's doing), even Brighton could compete for top 10. Or Wolves who started with 3 losses but pass the eye test... Newcastle I also think will pick up and start winning games. I think we could definitely finish mid table again, honestly Europe looks unlikely to me. The teams around us are strengthening, and we are ham strung by this financial bullshit. We get hit with a few injuries and we are going to drop down that table real quick.

7
band_z•

what i dont understand is, how can negotiations keep on failing till the last second of deadline day? what was this club doing the whole summer? nothing new we need a RB and some wingers, we knew that for years now. i really cant get a grasp of these politics.

27
clutchy42•

Seems like a lot hinged on offloading James wages. At least based on what info was reported with us trying to offer him into this deal or other places. We got Carlo's boy and now it's completely hamstrung us.

7
albeve•

Seriously? What were they doing all summer? Trying to find a deal for Moise Kean so we could actually buy somebody.

JustinLKX07•

Like everything in my life, too little too late. Explains why I support Everton though lol

Sellers hold on until the last minute

But people will still defend Brands.

Who do people think has been in charge of transfers these last few years?

-5†
pr1ceisright•

If rumors are to be believed, Morishi. Rumor is he has been in charge and routinely ignores Brands.

At least he's better than Walsh, but yeeeeeah..

3
GoOnKaz•

If we end up with no one aside from Gray, Townsend, and maybe Rondon from this transfer window I’m going to seriously have doubts about Brands. To this point I’ve been a supporter of his, but with no fullback coverage our season could really be in trouble with ONE injury.

3†
VToff•

I'm not going to lie, I was hopeful this would go through. That said, Gray has looked fantastic there, Richy can play there, and maybe it means an opportunity for Gordon to earn minutes at the club and develop.

We need to start producing first team players at least periodically again.

8
Timoth_Hutchinson•

The whole thing I don’t get about this, a transfer for him would have been around Ā£40m. A few weeks back we couldn’t sign Dumfries because we couldn’t afford at around Ā£20m. We’re more in need of a RB than a winger. Why was Luis potentially our main target for today?

8
Portland_Eric•

We could afford Dumfries. PSV had accepted our offer, but the Serie A champions were more appealing. The player chose a different club.

6
Timoth_Hutchinson•

Fair point, thought we’d just given up because of the asking price

1
son_of_toby_o_notoby•

We probably gave up due to how it is being paid Porto probs want it all upfront while we were wanting to pay in instalments

1
anotheroutlaw•

If you’ve been following this team long enough you’ll realize that 95% of our transfer rumors are hot air. We may have made an offer for Diaz but we were never actually going to sign him. None of it was real.

Remember when we were ā€œsigning Zahaā€ any minute for a month? And then we got Iwobi and Moise lol

2
Timoth_Hutchinson•

Hahaha since the Rodriguez transfer I’ve got my hopes up for any big name signing

1
RiteOfSpring5•

Just like everything else in my life I'm going to choose to be in denial about this too.

7
throwawaytbhidek•

At least James will be incorporated back into the fold, I think people are forgetting how good of a player he actually is simply because he might not fit our new system.

But fuck me not getting a RB is a huge failure

6
LugubriousFootballer•

So we aren’t signing anybody today?

FUCK

3
Dobbo1206•

Swear Romano is always shite with news for us, he thought there was a chance all of today up until they had an actual specialist on who told him he spoke to the player last night and there was 0 chance….

3
rookinn•

Never wanted him anyway…. šŸ˜žšŸ˜ž

3
bochiefJamesalad•

Townsend will prevail.

2
WRDEFC•

Not sure it ever made sense as a signing. Feels like great news in the medium term

2
E_V_E_R_T_O_N•

And now the fans might actually get to watch James Rodriguez play at Goodison.

5
10000Didgeridoos•

Rafa better break bread with him and find a way to get him on the pitch if we're paying him 100k+ per week

Still no RB either. When is it time to call brands a failure? How long can people hide behind the whole ā€œit’s not his callsā€ mantra. It’s your damn job to make deals and if you’ve been here for years with no real results, then that’s grounds for a sacking in 99% of every other profession on the planet
