$75 Sevinne, Secret Veyran Commander

Heya All,

I have seen the total craziness that magecraft produces, so I wanted to create something that had a less impactful commander out the gate but supplied a unique effect.

The cost was based off TCG (02 Sep 21)

https://archidekt.com/decks/1786611#$75_Sevinne_Magecraft_Storm

Sevinne provides a solid blocker, survives damage based boardwipes and triggers a copy.

This deck can be abit durdly like other Spellslinger decks early on, but it's all about setup and digging.

There are multiple combo lines in the deck and all the creatures synergies quite crazy with one another.

Unfortunately, Veyran is quite expensive so that boosted up the budget. Primal Amulet is also up there but is so bonkers with the creatures.

I hope someone enjoys it, happy to hear thoughts and questions.

Cheers Cory

Thank you all for the support and suggestions, I posted below. Cheers :)

I've been trying to get sevinne to work since the precon came out and I've done 4 different builds because I really love flashback. Some very good support cards have been printed in the years since the precon released and Sevinne has definitely gotten stronger over time...but the deck has always struggled. Your build is almost identical to my current version!

How do you like jace's sanctum? I've always found it better in theory than in practice. It's just SO slow. Sevinne tends to run slow anyway but jace's sanctum felt like a letdown of a card every time I got it.

Hey mate, thanks for stopping by. Sevinne is definitely not a strong commander, he's 5mana with no immediate impact. They print absurd cards like Veyran or Kykar, so he will never get much attention. However, I do like him because you can take advantage of all the good flashback cards and keeps the cost down $$$.

Look it sure is slow, and I wonder if it would be better just to run another mana rock. The scry does come in handy though, allowing to dig further, Goblin Electromancer is probably a better pick.

I always end up cutting Jace's Sanctum in my spellslinger decks. It's just too slow most of the time. I think a mana rock or the electromancer are probably betters picks for sure.

Agreed. I've got electromancer, [[curious homonculus]] [[deranged assistant]] [[millikin]] and on the pricier end [[baral, Chief of compliance]]

With how many board wipes he has, I think a mana rock might be slightly better. Otherwise, I think electromancer isn't going to stay around as long, but might help him still get to the late game before a wipe hits.

Thank you for the comment, I do understand your recommendations and they are all solid. If I had more creature ramp, I could change the board wipes to things like [[citywide bust]] & [[dusk // dawn]]

Thanks for the comment - I will definitely consider your feedback. Any other tips or tricks?

My build also uses twinning staff to get extra value from copies and I think a super underrated card is [[insidious will]] 4 mana can feel like a lot to hold up for instant speed interaction but it's a rare card that can potentially save you from losing OR potentially win the game. Other cool copy instants like [[narset's reversal]] can get pricey but insidious will is under $1.

I have the same idea behind [[banish into fable]]. It can target any nonland permanent, between tokens and counters bounce effects are underplayed imo, and those extra copies have given me such a good tempo shift. Again it may feel like a lot of mana to leave open but I have always gotten my mana's worth.

One last card I am never unhappy with is [[Farm//Market]].

Cuts are up to you but as final thoughts: I always try to run more instants than sorceries so I'd recommend striving to shift that ratio. Demonstrate is a cool effect but Creative Technique is pretty risky because it non-bos into your crackle with power, your devil's play, and your counterspells.

I feel like the deck could use a bit more targeted removal. You've got a lot of great board wipes, but most of your targeted removal looks to be higher cmc otherwise. [[Resculpt]], [[Reality Shift]], [[Generous Gift]] are nice. [[Ravenform]] is good, but not being an instant hurts it a lot too.

I also wasn't sure about you wincons. I saw crackle with power and explosion, but otherwise it seemed like a lot of value oriented plays. Seems like an easy deck to slot in [[Talrand]]. I also really like [[Docent of Perfection]]. If you're planning to use Veyran a lot then you'll get double triggers off these as well.

I want to like Sevinne but Kalamax just breaks Veyran. The ramp is crazy. Prevent all damage is kind of cool but Kalamax farts and he is accidentally 1000/1000. The combo lines are just scary.

Yeah I agree with you 100% and is the exact reason I like to play underrated commander. Kalamax is OP, Sevinne does some cool stuff though just slower

Also [[Vandalblast]] is an absolute pet card for me, goes in all my red decks.

After the suggestions of many of you, I am pretty happy with the finished product :)

https://archidekt.com/decks/1786611#$75_Sevinne_Magecraft_Storm

Win Cons:

Dual Caster Mage/Naru Meha, Master Wizard + Ghostly Flicker = Infinite Mana

Reiterate + Mana Geyser = Infinite Red Mana

Dual Caster Mage + Sublime Epiphany = Infinite Dual Caster Mages

2 copy spells + Ral, Storm Conduit = Infinite Damage

2 copy spells + Storm-Kilm Artist = Infinite Treasure

2 copy spells + Veyran, Voice of Duality = MONSTER Veyran

Crackle with Power + Mana Geyser = Massive Damage

Let me know what you all think. :)
