[mini-effort] So You Want To Get Educated or Active (anarchist edition)

The best thing to do upon going to a new city, is to locate your closest chapter of Food Not Bombs. These will tend to be the SJ-minded people who can point you in the right direction. They'll know where the good dumpsters are, of any share-houses, and of any neat local spaces. Checking out your local DIY Bike Shop can also be a wonderful way to tap into the scene. Plus, it helps you get around! If you're in Ontario another good way to meet new like-minded people is to check out the local OPIRG.

The back of your Slingshot organizer can also be helpful, but if you haven't found the spaces yet, where can you get your Slingshot?

Then there are Organizations with a Cause. One of the most visible is No One Is Illegal, located in a few cities. If you're in Ontario you might be interested in the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty, or its Halifax equivalent. Montréal even has the only Canadian Anarchist Theatre Festival as a part of the lead-up to the Anarchist Book Fair. There are book fairs in many other cities throughout the year, including Victoria. If zines are more your thing then you might like canzine.

If you're in Toronto and want to do some anti-Ford agitation you might like Stop The Cuts. Calgary, you may have won this round...!

Maybe you just want to keep informed of the social justice movements in this country - you might like Rabble or the Media Co-op. Of course, there are local movements throughout the country too, such as the Uranium Mine near Sharbot Lake. Anarchism here takes solidarity with First Nations very seriously. If all you need is inspiration, the Urban Repair Squad has some good advice. After all, infrastructure is crumbling throughout the country. The best advice? Trust your inner bunny.

Do your networking with your security hat on! Use your riseup account for agitation. There is the common misconception that anarchism is Public! Enemy! Number! Three! and I don't want you to get accosted unnecessarily. Know your rights. I'll see you in the streets.
