The logical inconsistency of "unvaxxed are selfish"
Now, we know that logic and reason are tools largely unavailable to the pro-vax-mandate crowd. We can't expect them to be able to think clearly when we have the media and the president making ridiculous, unproven claims about the virus.
One thing, however, that really bugs me, is the "stop being selfish and get vaccinated" argument. This whole mentality that if you're vaxxed, you're a selfless individual protecting others, totally falls apart in light of the fact that you still carry a considerable viral load if you are vaccinated against - and infected by - COVID-19.
Now that we know that the vax doesn't prevent the virus, as our fearless leader recently claimed, they're trying to switch the narrative to "it reduces the severity of the infection for the people that are vaccinated, and that's all it was ever intended to do."
If it only reduces the severity of the infection for those who are vaccinated, but they can still spread it to everyone else, doesn't that make getting vaccinated much less of a selfless act? I hesitate to call it selfish, because everyone should have the right to choose to vaxx or not, and I can't blame anyone who has weighed their options and ultimately decided that they'd rather be vaccinated than take their chances with a 99% survival rate. I just wish they would stop labeling the unvaccinated crowd as "selfish" simply because we're not being vaccinated to protect only ourselves.
If the vaccine completely eliminated any chance of someone contracting the virus, then yes, one could maybe make the argument that it would be selfish for people to not be vaccinated. However, since that's not the case, the argument completely crumbles, and anyone that tries to use it is a fucking moron.
