Should I Push for Treatment

I'm seeing a rheumatologist for the first time tomorrow about my psoriasis, as I suspect I may be developing PsA. The pain is limited to one finger most of the time, and has been at the same level for about three months since it abruptly started. If the doctor thinks it's PsA, should I be pushing for treatment to stop progression as quickly as possible? I want to protect my joints from getting damaged, but I'm not at a point where the pain itself is a problem--it only hurts when my finger gets bent forward toward my palm or I make a really tight fist. Is it always best to treat it as early as possible, or does it make sense to hold off until it causes me more trouble?
