Apex legends matchmaking

I am fed up of consistently being matched up with level 1 - 100 teammates who don't even know what their legends do. I mean I'm not the best player, I'm only level 348 but still, it matches me with bad teammates and then my enemies are level 500 and have 5000+ kills. Is there something up with SBMM lately or has it always been like this.
