5 tips for any new or returning players getting into trials this week because of the rework.
Before I jump into the tips I'd like to make it clear that these tips are for players who have either never gone flawless but have played for a while or are new to the game and are starting trials for the first time ever. These tips are meant to allow you to play at your full potential but wont magically turn you into frostbolt.
Now to get straight into it :
- PLAY WITH PEOPLE WHO YOU ENJOY PLAYING WITH. Trials is a game mode which will lead to your team getting slightly or very stressed out eventually if you're constantly playing to win against good players. Playing with LFGs, people who you don't know and aren't comfortable joking around with, will certainly end up in you tilting. If you dont have friends to play pvp with I would suggest joining content creator server's and chatting around till you find someone who vibes with you.
- Use what you are good at and accustomed to using. Just because you saw your favorite streamer, xXtrialsdaddy69Xx, go flawless in trials with a handcannon/sniper does not mean you have to use the same loadout. If you're not good with a handcannon, don't feel pressured to use it. So long as your team is communicating and complementing your playstyle, there's no need to force yourself into a certain loadout. Always remember that there is no reason to NOT use a loadout that you are good at because your favorite streamer called it "cheesy". Do not limit yourself based on artificial honor rules. When playing to win, every loadout is an option for you. Don't make it harder for yourself by trying to use something you don't like. (Note : This tip does has some pretty obvious exceptions, for example its really not advisable to go into trials with a 22 zoom scout rifle.)
- Team composition and communication. Communicate your moves and what you want to do in a match to your teammates. If you've played trials with someone for a while, communication can be minimal since they understand what you might do in certain situations. Ex: When I do trials, my hunter teammate almost always goes for a flank on the first round, knowing he'll commit, I can confidently push up mid and draw fire. If you have not played with your teammates frequently, always remember that they will NOT know your intentions. If you're gonna throw a nade down mid then expect your teammates to use that as cover and push up say it out loud, If you're gonna hardscope a lane then you expect your teammates to cover your back and tell you if an enemy is flanking, say it out loud. Even the most trivial pieces of communication can help a new team function better and play together. A few more examples being : If you're reloading and cant help in a teamshot say it out loud, if you're low on health and you want to rotate say it out loud, if you just missed both sniper shots say that you're out of snipe, if you're gonna drop a rift or barricade in a certain area make that known too. You get the point, basically always communicate your intentions.
- Good callouts. Establish with your teamates what the callouts on a map are. You and your team should always have a few key locations known by a common name. Saying "the sniper is behind that thing" isn't helpful. Load into a private match with your friends and establish the names of a few common points on the map that can then be used as reference for callouts. "The sniper is behind C boxes" is a much better callout than "The sniper is behind that thing". Another option would be searching " r3likt destiny 2 [insert map name]", you'll find birds eye views of maps with all the necessary callouts which you can then memorize roughly.
- How you approach Trials of Osiris. Always set your expectations and goals straight. If you're a new player who is just getting into trials, expecting to go flawless on the first try and getting tilted when you fail is an unrealistic expectation which can ruin your team's mental stability. Before you get into your card have a moment with your team and decide on what you want to achieve. Don't set unrealistic goals or expectations that you cannot possibly meet since that leads to stress and tilt. A good starting point for most people could be just finishing the rounds won challenge, then you can go for 3 wins and then slowly build up to 7. Just as you should not set unrealistic goals for yourself, you shouldn't set unrealistic expectations on yourself or your teammates. Don't beat yourself up because you lost a sniper duel against a 2.0kd 500 flawless runs gamer. Understand that you are outclassed in that duel and formulate a different plan. Don't get mad at your teammates for losing a 1v3 against players far better than them, doing so only leads to tilt within the team. If you see a flaw in your team strategy point it out constructively, but never throw aggressive blame at someone for something that they cant control.
And that is all the tips I have to give about trials. Always remember that following these tips wont suddenly turn you into a top 1% pvp player, practice with your team is something that no amount of tips and tricks can replace. These tips are only a way for you to ease yourself into trials while playing at your current best.
Thank you for reading this extremely long post if you are down here. Have a good card this week.
If anybody has any tips to add or corrections to make let me know I'll edit them in.
