Sexuality is outdated and needs to updated
I've always thought rimworlds sexuality mechanics were very strange. Firstly, any sexual orientation outside of heterosexual is labelled as a trait, meaning that heterosexuality is the default state of pawns. This could be improved by having a sexuality tab in the pawns information, something similar to Fabled. Secondly, the sexuality traits seem to have a very low distribution rate. Maybe it's just a coincidence in my game, but I can have a colony of 15 pawns and have no queer characters. This has the gameplay effect of having a character with a gay trait less valuable than without, since it essentially locks them out of having any romantic relationships with most of, if not all of the other pawns within the colony. And finally, it seems that pregenerated relationships cannot be queer in anyway, at least from my personal experience. Meaning that gay and bisexual pawns can only be designated an opposite sex partner by the game. Obviously during actual gameplay queer relationships can form naturally, but I find it strange how the pre made relationship system doesn't support this.
For some side notes, Rimworld explores themes of cyberpunk and futurism. It feels weird to me that transgender pawns haven't been introduced since body modification and identify is so present within the game. I'm not totally blind to rimworlds efforts however, as the recent expansion ideology expands the moral laws of polygamy and monogamy based on beliefs. which I think is great.
I know I'm gonna be some shit for this but I hope we can have a civil discussion in the comments.
