That was the best 20 seconds of finals football

Second only to when Broncos legend Ben Hunt won the premiership for North Queensland.

If this was a close game that would be one of the biggest errors in finals history

I upvoted, read your comment then took my upvote back because of the funny sex number

And the 69 upvotes for this comment just completes it nicely.

A joke usually works by forcing you to make an assumption, then subverting it. Saab’s try is actually a perfectly set up joke. It starts off with the already unusual optional 20m kick from Reuben Garrick. The shite kick forces you to make an assumption that melbourne will clean up the ball and it will result in 1st tackle at around the 10 for melbourne. This is promptly subverted by Lumelume’s error, in perfect comedic timing, leading to the funniest try I’ve ever seen. But hey, I guess it ain’t funny once you explain it.

Lol kick it to the guy with fucked up eyes, what a bully Garrick

I pissed myself laughing at the kick going down the centre of the field, then just watched in horror as Lumelume fumbled it.

They've been running that at training all week

Just like Des drew it up on the whiteboard

i'll never forgive lumelume for forcing me to hear that five nights at freddy line

What a play with the kick off the restart

We need a compilation of try blunders of the year

Saab should buy a lottery tickets after that

He had a lot of ground to cover. Thought he did his hammy.

Fair, wasn't sure if that was the case. Cheers!

Soon as the ball hits your foot it’s game on

Just like a kick off as well if it bounces and goes out the kicking team gets the ball back.

I hadn't thought of it like that! Makes a lot of sense.

It's a 20m optional restart, you can kick the ball however you want, teams just usually tap it (which is considered a type of kick)

I know right?

That's got to be an easy kick.

Why don't teams do that ever?

Because it can only bounce once, I guess that’s the risk factor and it’s also not a commonly known rule. I’ve seen Ennis and Maloney do it once each and a couple times on the weekend at club level but other than that not really.

Really? That sounds rather easy to do since the defending team all stand on the 30m line.

You can actually kick it and if it bounces once and then goes out, the team who kicked it gets the ball back. That’s why Dan says “it needs to go over the sideline” when he kicks it.

Not to take away from a hilarious try, but it's a 20m tap, right? Surely you can't just run to the line and boot it downfield, there'd have to be a tap on the 20 and _then_ a step or two and into the kick?

No. Watch the first try of the match again.

Hate to see this happen to the fastest man in rugby league.

If Papenhuyzen keeps sprinting he beats Saab to the ball. Not sure wtf Lumelume was thinking, just pick up the ball, why slide?!

Isaac Lumelume spills his lollies and Jason Saab scoops it up for a huge try
