What if Crow wasn’t there to ‘save’ Osiris on the moon during Hunt?

Hive

We all know the first mission of Season of the Hunt ended with Crow driving a sword through a Knight that was about to kill, who we thought at the time, was Osiris.

I’ve been wondering lately - what if Crow wasn’t there? What if the Knight did kill ‘Osiris’? Would Savathun burst out of his body like a cocoon? How would it have impacted the story as we know it?

What do you guys think?

Savathun would have gone back to her throne world and Osiris would have died (probably)

Or

Savathun would have dodged

Or

we would have saved them

Or

A knight kills Savathun and gets some street cred

I'll take street cred for 200 please

Would be like an orc killing you in Shadow of War and gaining 50 lvls

lmfao now i just imagine a random thrall killing us while we're afk and suddenly we have a new hive god to deal with

Linksays:suros: Suros•

That would be one of the best plotpoints ever in a Destiny story.

"Guardian, remember how you ended up dying to a Thrall once in the Cosmodrome?"

"Yeah?"

"For some reason, that Thrall ended up becoming a Hive God, and I don't know how."

"Wait what?"

Cactiareouroverlords:nine2: Emissary of the Nine•

New raid boss: Thrall

That’s it, it’s just a thrall with lots and lots of HP

82
Volsunga•

We actually had this, but it was a dreg, not a thrall. The Mindbender was that random dreg that everyone pushed into the Hellmouth on our sparrows back in D1.

18
mjtwelve•

Do you gain tribute for killing something that can't die?

48
Joshy41233:house-judgment: House of Judgment•

Thats basically what the whole dreaming city and pit of heresy was about, savvy farming us for tribute

54
OnlineOverlord15•

Yes, it’s how the Mindbender got most of his throne world

34
Biomilk•

IIRC Oryx, Savathun, and Xivu Arath repeatedly killed each other one time to gain power, but since the deaths weren’t in their respective throne worlds they lived and kept the power they gained. Returning from a throne world is implied to be more difficult than ghost resurrection though, so that might factor in.

Before all of this I used to think that it was convenient as fuck for us to arrive in time to see Crow ‘save’ Osusathun from one of Xivu Arath’s knights and reveal himself. I thought it was a cliche plot thing to do, but now it seems like that was the point.

Celebrity-stranger:nine: Agent of the Nine•

This right here. With everything going on now it feels like to me that her "rescue" was even conveniently planned.

Petra said humans see things in absolutes without any grey areas, you guys take it to the extreme with every breathe being a lie and footstep a plan. She seems extraordinarily vulnerable in her other form literally having to crawl and reach for Osiris. The High Celebrate was obviously on the Moon hunting her, Savathun hears Xivu's voice through it's howl.

She was in disarray after merging into Osiris and literally saved by Crow who was already on Luna and told Osiris to stay away. She didn't and couldn't have planned that situation. The plan was to get into the City whoever the body didn't matter, she expressed approval of choosing Osiris while watching the Crucible match.

I'd argue she would have preferred taking Shaxx or Zavala considering how long she's been a voyeur in that skull. Savathun actually tried to take Shaxx first but he was way too fast for her.

58
mjtwelve•

Osiris has advantages and disadvantages. His being a lone wolf, shady character who runs his own ops without approval from anyone gives a lot of freedom of action without anything semeing out of character.

On the other hand, Ikora and Zavala, amongst many others, have always kept an eye on what Osiris is up to and no one but Saint (and Osiris' stans) entirely trusts him.

Can you link or name the Osiris crucible match thing? I’d like to read it

I think savathun would’ve just sent a distress signal from something to get our attention

67
starfihgter•

A distress signal? We were right there and we just kinda stood still

30
GCSpellbreaker•

In case you didn’t watch the cutscene, we did as you said: kinda stood there. If savathun had to she would have totally obliterated the knight but she couldn’t risk exposing herself too early. Crow stopped it while we did nothing. If she knew neither of us would show up, then she would simply have not put herself in that situation. She needed crow to show up while we were there. If she had gotten impatient or not devised a way for us both to be there, she would have found another way to contact us

27
scehood•

Lol and the closest vanguard person on the Moon would've been Eris. I'm pretty sure Eris would have seen through Osiristhun and stuff would have gone down had Osiristhun just stumbled out of the Hellmouth instead of being "saved" by Crow and the Young Wolf. But since she's out and about on the Moon and Europa we never saw any interaction between them. I'm pretty sure the reason Eris has not had a spotlight recently is because of Osiristhun being around also-since being familiar with Hive magic, she probably would have seen right through the disguise.

Come to think of it why was Crow on the Moon in the first place?

10
GCSpellbreaker•

Prolly running an errand for spider

I'd like to think that the random knight actually manages to kill Savathuun, and instantly becomes Ascendant and gains a Throne World and is just immensely confused

56
DovahSpy:warmind: Rasputin Shot First•

The knight was a paid actor

It was a set up made by Savathun to add Crow into the mix and taunt Mara

26
creepyunclebadtoch•

If crow wasn’t there to save “Osiris”, then Savathun simply would not have shown up in the first place.

The only reason she appeared at that moment as osiris and pulled off that stunt was because she knew Crow would be there to save him(her)

25
Moonhaunted69•

By the way, that was actually Osiris. She’s been inside him for a while.

2
CuddleSpooks:house-kings: House of Kings•

I was thinking the same thing, then I replayed the mission because of my fiancée starting to play D2 & I told her about it, like, I thought it was Savathûn's Knight & maybe it would just stop right before hitting her, with both of them looking around awkwardly surprised

but then I saw the swirly thing on its head & realized Xivu Arath truly is hunting Savathûn down; anyway, I think maybe she knew Crow was coming, and that's why she fumbled the Scout Rifle out of Osiris's hands. Had Crow not been there, had we not acted either, she would've used the Scout to defend herself & we wouldn't question anything

17
jondthompson•

Now run presage with the knowledge that it’s Savathun talking to us… what is she seeing/hearing when we’re hearing Uldren/Cayde…?

The ignorance of my youth; the pain of change. Unproven faith wilted by l**ogic.

This line and the one from expunge,

Somehow, in spite of everything you've accomplished, I managed to underestimate you. I wont make that mistake again

are the only reason I didn't dismiss the Osiris theories, and we saw how that turned out. I've been loving going back to all of his dialogue the past 3 seasons, almost everything takes on a totally different tone.

21

When I heard the expunge dialogue I knew the rumors were true. It was a dead give-away.

She hears the voice of her father's dead worm familiar from Fundament.

10
Breighton•

Damn I never thought about like that but I feel like savathun wanted that to happen though unless she's just that easy to kill 😂.

16

I’m not sure - but didn’t Savathun crawl inside Osiris before Crow took down the Knight?

10
Thymera999•

Yes, Osiris lost his Light beforehand the encounter with the Guardian and Crow and got possesed by Savathun.

2
Pwnda123:vanguard: Tower Command•

I have my reasons to believe that he - in particular - had to be there; it was part of his destiny. No really, I do. I'll have more to say in a post sometime soon.

6
BookerClyde:fallen: Kell of Kells•

The way Mara spoke about Uldren's death, it seems there is a whole lot of predetermination going on that I never considered. I'll keep an eye out for the post!

6
AbsoluteWhacky•

i dont think there is a timeline where hes not there, i think savathun would have influence every action to make sure he is there and the knight was probably a paid actor too

4

Do we have any confirmation that Sagira is gone? Who told us that Sagira died?

4
xEllimistx•

It's from the "Dread Not" bit under the "Immolant Part 2" lore on the Bungie site

8
faithdies•

Is this story told on Osiris's recollection? Because from this point on that's been Savathun

2
slightlycharred7•

I’m guessing she faked being in trouble to lure Crow in. After all she did say Crow was part of her plan.

3
thedragoon0•

Wasn’t his ghost killed on the moon? I’m guessing she does the switch after that.

2
XZombathonX:traveler: Long Live the Speaker•

Honestly my interpretation of events was that most of that happened, but not all, and after some point the rest of it was staged to make sense to Crow and everyone else

2
MarylandRep•

My question is why did she want to kill the High Celebrant. We know it didn't kill Sagira so was there an alternative goal?

2
Polaris328:nine: Agent of the Nine•

Weakening Xivu. Savathûn is being hunted by her sister, and has been since the end of Arrivals. She'll take any chsnce she can get to weaken Xivu Arath because it protects her as well.

5
Esur123456789•

What if the knight was savathun’s?

2

Yeah, but what if it wasn’t?

She waited until Crow was in the area before she sent the distress call. The knight was real but she orchestrated the whole encounter. Nothing was was outside her plans until we killed Quria.
