ZZZ Records, it's small but really enjoyable.

All day every day. The most comfortable record store with some gems.

Vinyl Cup is great. Super friendly staff and usually pretty quiet. Same owner as Marv's, I believe. The difference is Marv's is all new records while VC has an extensive used collection.

Marv's Record Store is my favorite locally. Truthfully, I tend to just go to Jays CD and Hobby for vinyl these days though. Vinyl is just one of the things they have, and no open turntables to play things, but the prices are lower than discogs for used vinyl which I can't say for all the others around town.

I’ve only been to a few record stores in Des Moines but I liked red rooster. Vinyl cup is decent too.

Ratt’s Underground Records in Merle Hay Mall is super underrated. Also just around the corner from the best Vietnamese food in town, in the (nearly abandoned) food court

Rogue Planet! It's a well-curated and annotated selection of music. They actually listen to and make notes about most of the records they sell and it's well organized so it's great for crate digging. I've found really great obscure exotica, french jazz-pop, and 60s avant garde synth stuff. They also have alternative-leaning newer stuff, like I found Sunn O))) and Autechre there.

Also like Vinyl Cup but Rogue Planet doesn't get enough love.

This place does the best job of keeping a really interesting selection that you're not going to find matched easily around here. Skews heavily toward jazz, and they know what they're doing. I cleaned up at a huge reggae drop they had a couple months ago--was the first time I saw more than a couple of good reggae albums in the same place in a Des Moines shop.

Ratt's Underground in Merle Hay Mall. They just expanded and I love all their selection.
