Really confused...

So I just got a text from a number VERY close to mine, literally the same except for the last 3 digits, claiming I had just called them. I didn’t, I have no history in my phone of the call being made so I simply replied saying sorry. I have no idea how this happened, could it possibly be some kind of scam attempt?? Maybe a glitch or something??? Idk but if anyone has any insight pls let me know. It really weirded me out...
