Questions to a Witness in a Civil Trial in Ontario

Can a witness in a civil trial be asked if a charge was ever laid against them? Or can you only ask them if they have been convicted?

I know s.22(1) of the Evidence Act stated "A witness may be asked whether he or she has been** convicted** of any crime, and upon being so asked, if the witness either denies the fact or refuses to answer, the conviction may be proved", which would suggest you can only ask about a conviction. I was just wondering if there is any definitive language or caselaw that states you cannot ask about a charge being laid (that didn't lead to a conviction).

Thanks for your help!
