I can't figure out if I'm ahead or behind of where I'm "supposed" to be
I'm 24 years old, I've just recently started a new job after a long break of being unemployed (I lost my last job in late 2018 because an accident left me unable to work, covid didn't help). I'm currently making 40k a year working t1 help desk for an MSP in the DFW area. Before this, I worked as a state contractor to roll out a new grants management system for a year, and I worked for the help desk for my school in a work study position, also for a year. I also got to my junior year of an IT degree before dropping out for health reasons. I like my current job and feel really lucky to have what I have, but it also feels like I should be further along at this point. My plan right now is to work on certs (comped by my company) to move up to tier 2 help desk when I'm eligible for promotion in 6 months, but from there I don't know what I should or even really want to do. Has anyone else dealt with this mindset before, and how did you move past it?

I felt the same way when I got out of the military and got my first help desk job I was 24, and started out making 45k in a HCOL city, what constantly ate at me was the fact that all my peers had gotten their degrees and cushy jobs, and they were probably making wayyy more than me, I try not to compare myself to others but it’s hard, I just used that feeling as motivation to propel myself forward. A year later I’m working a networking gig making a lot more. I can only tell you what I’d do in your shoes, which is use that feeling as motivation to get better at what you do until you get to a place you want to be.
