What is romantic attraction?

So basically my entire life I've been starved for attention and always thought that I wanted a romantic relationship. But the thing is that I feel like romantic relationships are way too complicated and complex. What I really want is just someone to hang out with. A person who understands me and doesn't mind limited physical content (I don't like being touched unless it's on my terms sure to an incident when I was young) since I still want to have that connection. I was just wondering if anyone could help me understand if what I want is just a platonic relationship or not.
