ARC audio issues with the U8G

I just got a 65-inch U8G this week and I’m having issues with audio over ARC. I have my Roku and 4K Blu-ray player going through my Nakamichi sound bar and have no issues there. However, I have my PS5 hooked directly into the TV for the 120Hz and VRR (whenever they finally add it). I’ve found with the PS5 that there is a half-second delay with the audio output going through the TV to my sound bar. The only Sound setting that overcomes this is Pass Through, but that down mixes the audio to 2.0.

Anyone else come across this and have a solution for it?

Update: according to the folks on avsforum, this is a known issue with Pass Through.

I don't have that problem. But I have the U7G and a Vizio sound bar. When I use Arc the sound on my Xbox series x only works on apps no dashboard sound or game sound. The set up is Xbox to TV HDMI for 4k120 arc out of sound bar to TV. The TV automatically selects ARC sound sound works on other ports like the cable box. I just gave up and went back to digital audio from TV to sound bar..

Was doing some poking around on avsforum, found that this is a known issue with Pass Through. It puts out two-channel PCM regardless of the source audio.

Guess I’ll be sticking to my headset until this gets fixed.

The Xbox has passthrough I believe it only works on apps. If I selected it the sound in my headset stopped working. I don't use the headset all the time. So having no sound is a bummer. So I will just stick to digital audio. I get Dolby Atmos with my headset. I have the Xbox wireless headset. Dolby is amazing on them.

Go to tv settings, sound, advanced settings, digital audio out then select "pass through". Should fix it. Same issue I had with my Xbox.

As I mentioned, Pass Through is down mixing the audio to 2.0. Found discussion about this on avsforum, so it’s an issue.

I was able to get DTS sounds setting on ps5 and pass through on tv to get rid of the delay. But I know exactly what you are talking about.

I tried switching the PS5 to DTS, but it’s still only outputting 2.0 to my sound bar.

I have this exact problem, and insanely timely to find a post 2 days old about it on Reddit. My setup is PS5 to Hisense H8G which is then output to a Vizio 5.1 soundbar. Whether I use Optical or HDMI, the passthrough audio gets recognized as 2.0 by the PS5. I really hope for a fix soon, I don't like using headphones all the time (nor should I have to).

I have tried different configurations of running the PS5 to the soundbar first, however the TV then recognizes the soundbar output as 1080p. I spent less time configuring my Atmos setup in the other room than I have on this problem.

Any links to the discussion about it on AVSforum? I'd like to read up on it.

Booo I think I just found the avs thread. If so it looks like an issue that has been known about since 2020. So I guess expecting a fix soon is out of the question.

Where's that link?

Ever get this worked out? Same setup except it’s Xbox

Same... Just got the tv yesterday and have the delay.

For the most part it seems like it’s tied to enabling eARC, I just have it set on the tv to regular arc and my Xbox to stereo uncompressed. Sounds great tbh and the lips are synced

Oh ok gotcha.

Ok I had it on Dolby digital, but changed it to DTS and now it's good..

Late to this post but wondering the same - wondering if you need to switch to an 8k HDMI cable. Could be a bandwidth throughput issue.

I already have the appropriate cables. That’s not the issue; it’s an issue with game consoles and any audio choice but Pass Through (which has its own problems).

Ok thanks for confirming. I just bought a U8G so was hoping they would have fixed it by now. 🙄

Having the same issue for both PS5 and Xbox Series X. VERY DISAPPOINTED to see that this issue STILL isn't fixed. And to think I returned my LG C1 for this because it was more affordable. Lesson learned.

Satellite speakers work fine with testing; but no sound coming out of them for games or shows UNTIL I went into Advanced Settings and set Digital Audio Out to "Pass Through". Doesn't sound great, but I guess it will have to do for now.

Seriously considering returning the tv because I've also had some display issues. ( I bought the U8G in a 65" for $1k, so the price was great, but am wishing I kept the LG C1 65" for $1,800).

I just got my U8G recently and have the same issue. I am trying to come up with some create idea to fix this... for example:

XBOX Series X HDMI out --> HDMI 2.1 Splitter -> U8G HDMI4 to send 4K@120hz

|---> Sound bar HDMI input for Dolby Atoms Audio

This will require me to switch the input source on my sound bar when I play my XBOX, but can probably get the best video and audio quality at the same time.

What do you guys think?

Have you been able to find an HDMI 2.1 splitter? Wasn’t aware there were any on the market yet.

1
Just_An0ther_Panda•

Amazon has quite a few HDMI 2.1 48gbps unidirectional splitters.

1
SignorCatOP•

I see switches but no splitters. Need an actual splitter to do audio from one cable and video from another.

Just_An0ther_Panda•

The bidirectional switches can act both as a switch (2 in one out) or splitter (1 in two out). However you are right that there is none that will separate the video and audio...

I have te U8G and a LG SP8YA sounbar(tried vizio also) it works find for regular tv and dish on demand movies but when I try to use apps like prime video or netflix I get the picture but the sound is from the last tv program I was watching. They sent me a new firmware update but that didn't help. Any suggestions?

So I was able to get DTS to passthrough by enabling Dolby Digital Plus instead of passthrough in the audio settings on my Hisense. I have no idea why but it works.
