Thought I was one the wrong subreddit for a sec lol

AmazingPatt•

same...

13
Propagation931Langrisser•

Thats a lot of equipment slots per character. Is that 10 different Acc slots, 5 sub weapon slots and 5 diff weapon + Others slots per char? They seem to have rarity too. That seems a bit excessive....

Townhero420•

It's okay. It's only 99.99 for the lifetime pass. This will increase your boob gacha rate and let you be in the top ranks of a game that will be shutdown in a year.

44
lcmlewGenshin Impact•

I'm surprised tales of crestoria is still running with its low playerbase, since tales of link and tales of the rays both shuttered

3
archefayte•

The difference is Tales of Crestoria is a global game handled by the same dev/publisher, so it's less likely that it would shutter (that and it would look bad on them since its a "main" tales game)

2
lcmlewGenshin Impact•

didn't the streamer in the luminaria video say luminaria is the first main tales game to be on mobile?

0
keithlimreddit•

debatable to be honest ( make some changes or something or somehow it's surprisingly still alive for so long to keep the game running or something like that) so I wouldn't say too early

1
[deleted]•

You remember where the equipment menu was shown? I watched some half of the stream but didn't get to it.

3
D00dleL0rd•

Fairly early about 0:19:00.

3
FencingFoxFTW•

19:33 for anyone curious.

[deleted]•

Thanks! Yea, there's so many slots. kinda cool that it looks like you can eventually switch artes/mystic artes as well, but I wonder how big an impact stats will be on content, since it's an action game.

1
LazoVodolazo•

Costume slots too so they also give stats ofc otherwise why equip 5 of them on the same guy

1
Torimas•

Now watch it require gold/ss/destroying gear to swap! Can you imagine that?

1
Vulcannon•

Gear gacha is a pass from me but hope it turns out well for everyone else!

30
MasterRazz•

Disclaimer: This isn't a post meant to make you reconsider your position.

I used to feel that way about gear gachas but lately I've come to prefer them because depending on how transferrable gear is, it means you can use characters you like as opposed to your favourites being trash whether due to powercreep or they were just never good to begin with.

As an aside, why bother making assets for characters that you never intend to be used?! It's such a fucking waste!

23
Vulcannon•

I think conceptually gear gachas could be nice but they typically fall into the same pitfalls anyways. Either gear is too impactful and you end up using characters that can abuse OP equipment or everything ends up feeling monogamous and now you're rolling for a ball of stats instead of a cool character and their art.

Good games find ways to minimize powercreep anyways and find creative niches for character design.

25
planetarial•

Rays I think handles the gear gacha fairly well. You roll for artes tied to the equipment you pull, with the big rarity stuff being five star artes and mystic artes, which have pretty pictures and each arte is a unique attack, making it more than just stats.

What keeps everything in check is that 1) PVE only game, no cancer PVP to worry about 2) The game emphasizes having a wide roster over having just a few OP characters so you can't just roll for certain characters and stomp everything. 3) Powercreep is minimal, about the worst is some characters end up having a lackluster kit when they launch and get a five star arte later that fixes their problems 4) Ultimately you don't have to roll for thats not favorites or characters you like using. 5) Also sometimes new stuff comes with new costumes so people just roll for that.

Luminaria though might be taking a different direction. Its hard to pin how things will go. I had high hopes for Crestoria but it ended up being lackluster in every way except for art and story.

5
myhoaki•

Every gear gachas start like that, then they add something called "Unique char stuffs" and it go back to square 1 :(

2
Zilox•

Isnt DFFOO (dissidia FF Opera Omnia) considered one of the most f2p friendly gachas etc and its mostly a gear gacha (well, only weapons are gacha)

1
LeoGiacometti•

They have absolutely no idea what makes a mobile gacha popular. I thought they would've learned with Crestoria but I guess failure is addicting.

23
komorebi-mikazuki•

It’s Bamco, if they had learnt they would’ve years ago. This is just going to be another one of those where they try to make a quick buck and then shut down the game in 3-4 years.

13
Sharoth18•

3-4 years is actually a decently long lifetime for a gacha. If you look at jp releases and the really cashgrab games 80% of gachas released don't even make 1 year.

This is not to defend Bandai in any means, I do have quiet a beef with them. The fact that they shoved Crashtoria out in the state it released when they knew from beta feedback it would take a year to release a stable product just shows what to think of that company. Not ro mention how they are running the SAO games or other anime properties. Not only the gachas but also all their console game releases are half baked.

12
komorebi-mikazuki•

Yeah 3-4 years is great for a gacha game, but for people who actually wants a longer commitment game like GBF, FGO, Phankill, Monster Strike, Azurlane etc it’s never going to happen with Bamco. Which in turn means it won’t ever have as big of a community.

3
[deleted]•

Monstrike is in that same category here too. It barely lasted 3 years on global while the game in JP is still one of the biggest moneymakers ever. Same with PhanKill (2 years).

Global is just a harder market to support. Quite a few of bamco's games shut down here but are alive and well in JP

6
Zilox•

Isnt one piece treasure cruise still going strong?

1
Abedeus•

3-4 years.

Mnay gacha games would kill for this lifespan. Like the recent Overlord gacha or English Magia Record version.

2
GrowlestFate/Grand Order•

Crestoria wasn't a bad game to me though, but the load times + lag were so terrible that it made me and a lot of people I know just stop playing.

13
dms83•

Same here. Load times + lag and connection issues during Raids cause me to stop playing.

2
[deleted]•

They have absolutely no idea what makes a mobile gacha popular.

So, what do you think does? I appreciate the approach from a story perspective (especially for an action game) to give a bunch of OC's that are all playable, but use gear as the gacha. Not like no gear gacha has ever succeeded.

The game looks good so far, so IDK what you mean otherwise. plenty of character types, fully roamable map, fully voice acted in JP and English, decent graphics, actual cutscenes. What's missing for you?

planetarial•

Idk Rays was great, its issue for the EN server they didn’t advertise enough and it was too FTP for its own good

3
GoderMorgonOPDissidia Opera Omnia•

Tales of Links was amazing though. Easily one of my favourite gachas ever.

3
Zilox•

They have absolutely no idea what makes a mobile gacha popular.

Its not like there's a 100% success formula for gachas. FGO is a bad game (sorry but gameplay is super dull/simple) with trash rates (decent story) and its super popular due to its IP.

2
Abedeus•

Kiara getting them fat Bandai sponsorships.

I actually like the designs, the character designer is actually the author behind Shokugeki no Souma (recognized immediately by one of the characters' eyes - also, the MC looks kind of like an older Souma).

Seems like the company is more confident in this game than Tales of Crestoria given there's already animation project in works. Shame it's in vertical mode...

16
[deleted]•

Crestoria had an animation project too. It was just an abridged version of the first chapter of the game.

It's being made by the exact same studio (who focuses on shorts), so I doubt this is a full season of anime.

5
Rehdex•

I knew those character designs looked familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it. I guess this is what Tosh has been doing since SnS ended.

1
hassive-mitler•

Whoa whoa whoa Tosh is his pen name for the 6 digit nuke code site right?

1
Abedeus•

Yes, and his 18+ anime adaptations.

1
Ephemiel•

Why in the world are there so many slots for weapons, accessories, outfits, etc?

12
xinelog•

I got to say the sound felt annoying..anyway game looks good to me. Will play when it launches and hope the CO.bat feels good.

And she says our Tako is the gacha addict.....

She is, but...

4
Ashencroix•

Kiara seems to be a gacha addict only for some gacha games she likes (I think AK is her current favorite?). Ina is a gacha addict for any gacha games she plays.

2
No_Eggplant9842•

looks like it's coming soon

3
D00dleL0rd•

That’s a lot of equipment I saw there at around 0:19:00. Otherwise I thought some of the aerial lance combat looked weird. It seemed alright just brushing through. Don’t have time to watch a whole stream though.

2
Sharoth18•

So it is a gacha, they hadn't shown any on the offical livestream. I was almost questioning if it has a gacha. From what I got from the offical livestreams was that the loading times where slow but performance much better than Crestoria. But the gameplay seemed to be very unintuitive, at least one voiceactor had trouble controling the character and run a straight line and ge didn't really grasp on how to do the different attacks.

2
GoderMorgonOPDissidia Opera Omnia•

Looks pretty solid to me. UI is very pretty. Not crazy about the character design though.

1
SassyHoe97•

Looks pretty cool to me.

1
Biwitch•

UI is really clean.

1
Feregrin•

Oh crap I forgot it was made by Colopl. I loved Rune Story (? Shironeko) that was shut down.

1
bbatardo•

I will try it, but doesn't look like it will keep me very long. On a side note.. who is the narrator? Her dialogue was very cringe to me lol

1
wiiteek•

Damn another weapon gacha game i hate those... Usually they are bearable but they add weapons very fast and they powercreep way to fast with those too... and every costume usually is paid only...

Usually they put minimum effort in creating weapons sadly...

Considering Kiara is an English (well, at least Hololive EN team) VTuber and everything in the video was English....

So it's in Russian, thank you for your insight
