Thanks in advance. Need for a surgical safety checklist review.

FWIW, here is an article from NPR geared toward the layman, about using surgical checklists. I'm wholeheartedly for them. There's a reason pilots swear by them!

The evidence is also pretty strong in favor of using the surgical safety checklist. I personally feel the evidence is at the point where surgeons are hospitals refusing to execute the list are negligent.

From what I've read, I agree. This blew me away:

When introductions were made before a surgery, Gawande says, the average number of complications and deaths dipped by 35 percent.

Even if that were an exaggeration by 2x, that's still a lot!

The original study was a large multi-site study, and a couple of the sites were probably not at a level of safety that would have been acceptable to populations in Europe or NA. That's why the difference was so huge.

A study from the Netherlands showed a closer to 9% decrease after implementation (and a bigger effect if compliance was taken into account). Still important, maybe not 1/3 important though.

I figured it might be something like that -- still, ~10% is nothing to sneeze at!

The PubMed page indicates that a free full English text is available, but the link they give is bad.

It oddly doesn't appear on the journal's page; maybe it's just too new.

I did find it here but it doesn't appear to have a PDF download link -- it's just in HTML.

For what it's worth, here is a download link to the HTML page, which has, in English, the Abstract (Objective/Methodology/Results/Conclusions), but none of the tables.

Thank you very much for your help, I was able to find those links as well. Unfortunately I haven't had any luck finding the full text, I guess I will have to delay moving forward!
