In-game icebreakers for a newly formed guild?

Question

The campaign starts with all four PCs being recruited into a newly created adventurer's guild. What kind of icebreaker activities will the guildmaster schedule to help both the PCs get to know each other, and the players get to know each other's (and their own) PCs?

My friends and I always use a little game we have affectionately named Knife Game! It's a fun meta-game where each PC has a knife or dagger and someone draws a target, and each PC throws their knife as close to center as they can (Out of character we just roll a d20, no mods, and a 20 means you hit the very center and a 1 you miss entirely). The person who gets the closest to the center gets to ask a question to the person who was the farthest. These questions can be anything, and you can even include NPC's. Each character playing gets 1 veto, which means they can chose to not answer that particular question for any reason.

Its a great little game and can be 5 minutes or a whole session if you want!

If you are the DM, or cycling for roleplay questions as a player… you can always set up a small celebration with bottles of wine, or a small dance hall thing to get the player characters to be easier around each other. Adventuring may not be everything! I’d also recommend just splitting the party up to do basic errand runs, like getting some materials around town or the small surrounding areas.

If your game is kinda set in one consistent setting (like a big city), a good idea would be to send them on a scavenger hunt.

Have them visit the big cathedral, talk a to a bunch of relevant shopkeeps, visit the park, pick up the guildmaster's dry cleaning...

This lets you do some worldbuilding with the players and have them RP both with each other and with NPC's.

You could way also include little combat to let the characters flex to each other. While walking leaving the potion shop, they see 3 (insert appropriate starter monster here) kill a dude. Roll Initiative!

What better way to let adventurers get to know each other than an adventure? Have the campaign start in-media-res with the PCs sent on a lower-stakes mission by the guildmaster.

Probably send them out to clear some undead out of some catacombs, send a priest type with them as a guide while travelling have the priest ask the group some light philosophical questions so the players can interact with the npc then eventually each other all the while getting to know how characters feel and think.

One thing I've seen done is to ask one high and low of the week. Helps people know what the others are doing. This could be a good chance for players to establish things about their characters, such as low: I nearly got stabbed to death stealing from the rich lord two towns over and high: I got tons of money out of it.
