Thoughts on Teemo w/ Promote?

Usually when I play Teemo top I run ignite/flash, however recently I considered using ignite/promote instead. Now I know promote is typically seen as useless, but hear me out.

The advantages that Teemo has over typical top lanes are the ability to harass at range and the ability to push, due to ranged harass. Now let's throw promote into the mix instead of flash. If you only last-hit instead of pushing, with consistent harass, and Promote when the first cannon minion arrives/you've got a large wave built up, you could potentially have a tower down by the second cannon minion. Even if you don't, the extra push would force the jungler to babysit your lane freeing up the rest of the map. Naturally you would only do this vs champs who can not clear waves quickly.

I think Nidalee could do well with this too. Thoughts?

The main problem with this strategy is that Teemo is a top lane bully. He is picked as a counter vs melee champs so that he can punish them in lane.

By pushing down your tower, you effectively break the lane, the enemy could just freeze their lane at the tier 2 tower, leaving Teemo very vulnerable. Teemo wouldn't have flash or mushrooms as the tower went down so early. He would just become far too useless.

This; your main purpose is to completely shut down problematic carries like Trynd, and make sure they can't farm their lane. As soon as you push the tower, they can freeze the lane in a much safer place, and you probably won't be able to get away from mid/jungler ganks.

If you're going for a hard push, 20m surrender game, then sure, its a good way to both counter their top lane and still push hard.

The idea is that I won't push until I've got a cannon minion. Then I go hardcore push mode. Plus Teemo can harass at tower fairly well.

Edit: typo

You've still created a scenario for them where they can farm indefinitely over the course of the game. Teemo doesn't exactly have great ganks for the other lanes after the tower is down either.

They can only farm indefinitely if you aren't there anymore harassing them.

I considered that, and pre-6/wriggle's you are correct that he would be vulnerable. But keep in mind I'm not sure if the tower would actually fall that quickly or not. This is just hypothetical at the moment. Even post-6/wriggle's he would be vulnerable, because being forewarned can only help so much. However, I think the immense pressure top lane would do a lot to help the rest of your team.

I've been thinking about doing something similar with Nunu since blood boil works on minions.

good call. I've used it on cannon minions when taking down a tower solo but a promoted minion would be beastly.

I'm a bit ashamed to admit this but... that's where I got the idea. From a nunu bot using promote. I was testing volibear out and I was like wtf this promote minion is so strong!

I was going to upvote you for an interesting, if flawed, idea. But then you had to be like "check reddiquette, don't downvote me bruh". ಠ_ಠ

Yes, for the comments. Several comments related to the topic were, and probably still are, negative.

I know I'm late to this but I'll throw my two cents in for you OP. I play with someone that almost always takes promote. At least 5-6 times a game it comes up where having a flash or exhaust would save his life, but he doesn't, he has promote and heal. Or promote and ignite or some other combo. But he really isn't a very good player so ymmv. And promote in lane is kind of a joke after a few levels where the champs can clear all the minions and then focus it down swiftly.

Where we have found promote to be decent is backdoor pushing. Pop it on a minion heading into a lane where there isn't anyone and then force a team confrontation somewhere else. Either force the fight or draw it out so your promoted minion has a chance to amass a horde and then teleport to it and back door some towers while the other team is dealing with the team action and/or dead from it.

thanks for the response mate. I've actually addressed a point of yours in other comments I believe. See, the reason I believe only Nidalee or Teemo could pull this off is that they have warning from the traps/shrooms as well as a way to move faster pounce/move quick. That would limit the times that I would get close enough to an enemy champion to need flash.

Another point you make is that it's pointless by the time someone can just clear the wave then focus down the super minion. I believe I addressed this before in the comments or my OP but I may have forgotten. I would only do this against a slow wave-clearer, like Warwick for example.

It is good to hear from the perspective of someone who actually uses, or someone who knows someone who actually uses, promote.

If you want to take it in a lane, it seems to be strongest in the mid lane where the enemy has a shorter time to respond to it so it can get right up to the tower and start doing it's job fastest. Mid laners often have trouble clearing minion waves as is unless they are blowing the cds and mana pool on it, which leaves them open to harass and having to back often.

I would honestly only do this as blue team, simply because there are more spots to stealth around (like their golems).

I don't think anyone but Teemo would be capable of doing this simply because if they block your escape route you're dead. If you see the enemy go MIA then I would just go in their jungle NOT inside of a bush, stealth, let your allies push/take dragon, and just stand still and let the storm go by. They're going to know you're around stealthed, but there are just too many spots where you COULD be stealthed that it won't even matter.

Edit: Also, I wouldn't stealth in the bushes because that's where they're going to blow all of their AoE thinking you're Recalling, and if they nail you out of your stealth, you're fucked, so I would pick a spot outside of a bush that just doesn't stand out.
