Mods to make the world feel lived in

Discussion

After nearly 2 weeks researching, troubleshooting and playing through the intro over and over and over again, I'm finally passed the museum of freedom and about to actually start playing this game.

BUT.... Before I actually, really start tonight, I thought why not ask you all for a few more suggestions?

I've installed Sim Settlements with Rise of the Commonwealth as I adore the way it created lived in settlements all over the place. I've also installed NPC travel but what do you use to?

More NPCs mod, No Combat Boundaries, Seek and Destroy. These will severely increase the amount of NPCs/enemies, they are also better at detection and will follow you at great length, even in and out of most buildings (one time a dozen super mutants stormed the diamond city market, it was simply awesome).

This will give you a sense of a more chaotic, dangerous, and thickly-settled Commonwealth. Another great mod for filling in the swaths of landscape gaps is A Forest.

Cheers, that all sounds awesome. So it's the Seek and Destroy one that improves the AI right?

I suppose it could be looked at as that. It essentially increases the distance at which NPCs detect you and how easily they can detect you. This, coupled with the More NPC and No Combat Boundaries mods, make for some supremely insane faction firefights as they will "detect" and engage each other at a greater distance. I've been chased by Gunners from the Plaza all the way to like Jamaica Plains before, and sub-engagements broke off from there. Just last night I led a pack of like 20 wild dogs into a Raider camp at a wrecking yard. Sometimes I do a run at Super Duper Mart as there's (what seems like) 100 ghouls in there, giving me a proper Left 4 Dead in VR feel.

Edit: totally unrelated to what you're looking for but if you feel you got the PC spec overhead / don't mind reprojection, I HIGHLY recommend the NAC X Legacy Edition mod for complete visual uptick in almost every regard. It also has cool features like introducing a "weather type" which is nukes dropping. It has so many customization options it's rather mind boggling. In certain lighting conditions the game looks better than Alyx

Oh I was under the impression NAC X didn't work with VR.

What's your spec? I've got a 2080 and 3600x with 16gb low latency RAM but I had to install loads of performance improving mods to get rid of hand ghosting and this odd character stuttering.

2070s, 3700x, 32GB RAM. I turn off Motion Smoothing and regularly get about 25-35% reprojection which doesnt bother me. NAC X works very well in VR IMO (Legacy Edition tho, not sure if that matters). You'll need to tinker a bit in-game, but in my opinion it is fantastic for immersion. Plays nice with FRIK and everything else. I dunno if NAC will clash with what you have, only performance enhancers I have are Insignificant Object Remover and some Windows setting I adjusted which has something to do with the TAA

What's the more NPC's mod you mention? I can't find it on the nexus.

I'm just running gingas vr essentials.

It's like 250+ mods. It's pretty good.

I support Gingas through Patreon but find the mod list a little too much. Honestly if I have any more issues I will probably just scrap my current list and go back to hers but not yet.

What about it do you find to be too much?

The realistic survival element. I know it's fun but currently I'm just looking to do an OP max gun/violence playthrough.

I agree, that is why i clicked on a number of mod's and turned things down. I don't remember which ones, but I basically dialed myself back down to "easy" mode. Shhh, don't tell gingas!
