I think their first three albums are with heavy hints of hardcore. This is def one of those time and place bands where if they had come along a few years earlier or later they might not have been but for their time yeah.
Plus they have songs like "Stein's Theme" which are pretty straight up nu.

This track is off their 1998 debut.
A few songs fit really well in the numetal sound. I received a Drawing Black Lines promo tape with Taproot songs on the b-side back in the day.
Lately though, they’re their own thing.
