New silent motherboard installed with no issues. It’s crazy how much quieter it is. These should come stock. I won’t miss the robot sex noises.

Haha yeah mine was super loud also. Can barely even hear it now.

Still 8 bit or was it an upgrade?

AbstractMediumsOP•

Still 8 bit unfortunately. Not too sure what other options there are without getting a brand new screen. Although eventually i may want to do that.

stock screen from E5+ works very well with BTT SKR1.3/1.4 and InsanityAutomation firmware 😉 https://github.com/InsanityAutomation/Marlin/tree/CrealityDwin2.0_Bleeding

Interesting. Thanks for that advice, I’ll have to look into that. That’s the one thing I’ve heard that isn’t super great about the E5+. The stock firmware.

The Creality firmware on all their BL Touch firmware on all machines is bad as the X,Y offset does not work so it misses a large area of the bed when probing, the Insanity Automation FW is exellent, I would change the cooling fan for the board if I were you as they have a habit of failing and then your board fry's.

It happened to me!

Would highly recommend BTT SKR Mini E3 with a TFT35 display from them.

The Mini E3 is a drop in replacement for the stock board, and the print for the mount/housing on the TFT35 is a really simple print & assembly. The only part I had issues with was the firmware because I wanted to use the most up to date version of Marlin firmware so I had to do the work on my own to figure out what needed to change (which wasn't that much)

Nice! I’ll have to look into that! That will probably be an update for a bit later once I can finally get it dialed in with the current hardware. But yeah I hear the default firmware on these e5+ aren’t that great.

Just installed the SKR2 with a TFT35. Auto Z-Level is nice

Would you mind sharing your configuration.h and configuration_adv.h files? Can't get z-homing with bltouch and really could use a reference...

I use the config from KerseyFabrications, ckeck his yt channels community tab. There is a link to the firmware as well as documentation for installing the board

Swapped mine about 3 months ago and I'm still tuning to get it back to where it was.

3
AbstractMediumsOP•

Dang thats rough. Mine seems to be doing just as good as it was before switching. I got mine off the creality site.

Still can’t quite figure out this retraction issue

2
TX_Wombat•

Yea thats what is stopping me right now - I've ran mine for 6+ months with no issues - many 40+ hour prints with little to no issues. Not worth the risk yet.

I had mine doing 6 and 7 day prints coming out near flawless. Now I'm still working on a benchy.

Oh man that sucks. The autolevel kept messing up on mine so I had to just run without the touch. It works great without it but I was thinking of doing the swap but now I'm scared again ha.

Lmao

I missed the robot noises. Oddly reminded me of the 80s. I liked it.

I still don't understand how a new mother board can make motors quieter

1
SpinnerMaster•

There's some electronics stuff I don't understand, but effectively the drivers (on your board there should be a row of little black squares (like 5-6 of them near where your axies plug in) control what signal is sent to the motors, from what I understand, silent boards use better quality drivers that send signal in a certain way to the motors so that they run quieter. I'm guessing a channel like Makers Muse or something probably goes in to detail as to why its like this. But effectively its the drivers on the board that make it silent.

AbstractMediumsOP•

Right?!? Me too! It sounded like all the noises were coming from the nozzle not the MB.

I did the same and will be adding Klipper to my printer

On top of the robot sex noises, my Z screws also squeal horribly especially when going through the auto-level routine. Like robot sex in a cheap bed...

1
AbstractMediumsOP•

Haha yeah mine were doing that a bit. At first i used vegetable oil to grease them then changed to the plastic z screws with springs in them. Haven’t heard a peep since.

Robot sex noises 😂😂😂 they literally give me nightmares. Sometimes when I'm not printing I still hear them. I desperately want this board. Already ordered on Amazon. Still waiting
