looks like he has a lighter callous too, something pretty much all regular smokers get on the thumb they use the most to flick a lighter flint or press the electric fire button(still get a callous from this just not as quickly). and because of that callous it really makes the resin pop.
My thought was resin too. Capping the bowl with his thumb after taking tokes.
